Are they armed with Las-rifles as well as there heavy weapon?

And if so, can they choose to fire these Las-rifles instead of their heavy weapons?

  1. Note: I don't have the latest Imperial Guard codex and hope I'm not giving you inaccurate info, but I'm fairly sure this should all still be true.

In almost all cases, equipping a model with a heavy weapon replaces its normal weapons.  So, a model armed with a Lascannon would not have a lasgun, and would be unable to fire at all if the squad moved (since a Lascannon is a heavy weapon).

Imperial Guard heavy weapon teams are a little different; they consist of two models, the loaded and the firer.  While the loader moves around as part of the heavy weapon, the loader is still armed with the standard weapon (a lasgun) and can fire that normally; both when the squad moved (and the heavy weapon is unable to fire) and along with the heavy weapon firing.

Hope that helps.  Check out www.warseer.com if you want a great place to talk about 40K online at.
