Warhammer 40k - Need Help Choosing!

Question

Hey, i currently have a 700p-ish Blood Angel army for the Space Marines and as im building m army up i have been wondering about starting a secondary army. I want something that has a different experience that Blood Angels, both play-wise and build-wise, and is NOT Necron or Tyranid.

I would also be interested in the "Armies with a Purpose" label.

This meaning any race or whatever that was created for a purpose and not just cruising around the galaxy and shooting s*** up. EG an army that was created to combat a certain threat etc.

Well, first of all I'd recommend getting your Blood Angels up to at least 1500 points, otherwise you'll hardly get any use out of them.

Alternatively, sell the Blood Angels to fund your next army.

Anyway, onto the question.

The obvious "armies with a purpose" are the Inquisition armies: the Daemonhunters and Witch Hunters.  These are characterful and exciting - if challenging - armies to play with and can be as expensive or as cheap as your like, depending on how you choose to make up those vital Troops choices.  You could even keep your Blood Angels and rope them in as Allied Space Marines under the "By the Authority of the Immortal Emperor..." rule.

If you don't fancy this, then you could consider doing a Tau army.  All Tau armies are there "for the Greater Good", so they come with "purpose" built in.

The other option is to go for a heavily "themed" army, such as an Ultramarines anti-Tyranid army, or an Imperial Guard army with the Preferred Enemy trait.

I'm with Omega on this one.  Inquisition would be the way to go.  Each Inquisition Order has a specialty.  Ordo Malleus (the daemonhunters) have an Inquisitor, and a retinue of special henchmen to go with the inquisitor.  As Omega said, they can rope in Space Marines.  Or, they can use the special chapter of space marines called the Grey Knights (as a Chaos guy....I hate those jerks).  

Theres also the Ordo Hereticus, or the Witch Hunters.  They also have a special army...the Sisters of Battle.  Basically...Nuns with Guns.  Burn this, burn that, holy might of the Emperor kinda stuff.  As far as zealots go, they make even we Word Bearers look bad.

My recommendation would be to research one of these two armies and go with one of them.  Or renounce the Imperium and join Chaos.  Whoops...did I slip that in there?

imho, i would go for imperial guard army. but that's just my personal preference. only you can really decide what army you will like.

i already have a space marines army. i might start an imperial guard army because i love tanks and there's a lot of variety in the imperial guard. also, the I.G. can ally with the space marines in an Apocalypse game.
