Question:

Warhammer 40k: can the Tau be truly evil?

I'm just getting back into 40k and thinking of taking on the Tau army, however with one exception; modifying them to be evil (I hate the concept of "For the greater good" - too boring for my liking). Now being new to this army I am unsure if this is possible, from what i have read thus far some people believe the Tau cannot be chaos due to having no psychic powers, but the question isn't really about being chaos, its about being evil in general. There is a debate on the Warhammer site about Commander Farsight being 'friend or foe', the foe uses the notion of Necron energy corrupting the character. If this is so then is it at all possible to build a small army on this concept, and how would this affect the rules and playability?

  1. That's the beautiful thing about 40k, EVERYBODY thinks they're the good guys lol.  Whats more evil?  Someone that kills you for survival, or someone that kills you while smiling in your face because they think they're right?  To me, "For the Greater Good" sounds like Communism.

The necrons can't really "corrupt" anyone, but can be deceived by the C'Tan (the Star Gods that the Necrontyr worshipped, and who turned them into the deathless machines that they are).  If you want your tau to be evil, paint them as such.  Use the necrons as a basis for the style.  Or load up on a bunch of Kroot.  Afterall, they eat the dead.  Thats pretty evil.  Even MY Chaos guys don't do that.

  2. well, no tau is exactley "evil", farsight turned off the path of the greater good because he thought the etherials where being stupid and he just didnt like orks i geuss.

But chaos wispers to all beings, and one etherial turned from the light of the greater good could lead thousands of tau in his wake, therefore creating a chaos tau group, you could add your own characters and stuff, you just have to ask your opponent if its ok if you use em.
