I have a regiment of orcs, some armed with spears and shields, others with spears and choppa's. Is it Ok to stick a shield on the back of a model that is armed with a choppa and spear or double choppa's and still use the shield when making saving throws even if the model is not physically holding it ? like wise with models armed with a shield and weapon, can they use additional choppa's if the weapon is on the model ?

  1. you can equip them with whatever you like according to your book, however, you have to pick what weapons set you are going to use at the beginning of each combat, and you have to stick with it through the whole thing, i.e. two close combat weapons, close combat and a shield, or spear and a shield, two close combat weapons will not give you the shield save, spear will give you the save, and the close combat weapon and shield will give you the save, plus an additional +1 to your save tif the enemy is attacking you from the front

  2. You should get te Army Book and refer to that.  However, if I remember correctly, Spear Boyz can't take choppas as well.  Therefore, adding a shield to the backs of those with choppas is fine, but they'll always count as having shields and not choppas.  You may need to make this clear to opponents so that the regiment's status as Spear Boyz is absolutely clear.

Again, having the Army Book will make this absolutely clear.
