Lyon’s recent performances were a major talking point for national selector, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 in July. The 24-year-old managed just 8 wickets on that trip, averaging a poor 48.75.Inverarity
said that Lyon’s bowling became ‘a bit muddled’ on that tour and further highlighted his poor outings in the Australian domestic season for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Tasmania-c854.
The spinner then himself admitted his struggles to cope with the plethora of advice he had received since earning the baggy green last year. In total, he has taken 42 wickets at 27.83 since bursting onto the scene against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758, and ended the first season
as among the valuable assets for the side.
However, the off-season hasn’t been kind for Lyon, who has to deal with fears of losing his position in the Test side, especially in the wake of Jon Holland’s impressive performances. The Victorian left-armer outperformed his Test incumbent on the same English
tour by taking 10 wickets at a reasonable 27.30.
However, for now Lyon is likely to take his place in the national team when they kick-off the current home summer against South Africa. Warne, who will make a second appearance in the Big Bash League, said that the youngster must solely focus on his regular
deliveries rather than adding any other to his repertoire.
"http://www.senore.com/Cricket/GP-Swann-c1501 does okay [with only] the offbreak and the straight one. I think Nathan Lyon has done very well too," Warne said. "I think if he can just concentrate on his offbreak and the straight one I'm sure he'll be fine.
"For Nathan it's just to keep doing well. As a spinner, all you want to do is bowl well. Don't try too much stuff, just bowl well, and over a period of time you'll have better games than not. Keep spinning his offbreak, the odd straight one, think about
the game pretty well, contribute to the team and that's it."
