Warner not ending retirement as Cards QBs struggle
Kurt Warner is getting ready to start a new career and has no intention of returning to football. He retired in January after leading the Arizona Cardinals to two straight NFC West titles and is not coming back.
Warner is now trying to grasp the functions of a Mac as he starts his broadcasting career with FOX and has no intention to get banged around for another season. The Cardinals need some help at quarterback as Matt Leinart has looked awful in preseason action and Derek Anderson hasn’t done anything to persuade Coach Ken Whisenhunt to change his depth chart.
"I'm not panicked about it. It's a process you have to go through," Whisenhunt said regarding the team’s quarterback situation. In the Cards’ latest preseason game against the Tennessee Titans, Leinart did not generate a first down in three series and went 4 of 6 for 28 yards, unable to complete deep throws. That will revive the criticism about his lack of arm strength.
Back to Warner, he had his mind made up a long time ago. He let the team know early he was retiring and didn’t leave them wondering of his whereabouts all offseason, unlike a certain someone, but let’s not mention any names.
Warner ended his career on a high note and is done with football. Fans can beg him to come back and campaign for the team to do what it takes to bring him out of retirement, but it’s not Warner’s concern now. He’s happy with what he’s doing and is ready to start a new life. During the Cardinals preseason game against the Titans, he posted the following on his twitter account: “OK, y'all… I am watching the game… I am not coming back… Sorry guys, you know the definition of 'retire'?”
The Cardinals will simply have to rely on finding a new quarterback for their long-term success. They can’t go to a retired quarterback, walk into his house and beg him to rejoin the team. There’s only so much room for such antics in the league. Let Warner enjoy his life and his new career. When he said he was retiring, he meant it.
