  1. Ok, let's reeeeally think about this now.

Any seed from any plant or vegetable is a living thing.  Inside that seed is the life of

a new plant, in this case tomatoes.

    Let's talk about canned tomatoes.

The tomato vine grows and produces

lovely tomatoes.  they are then picked and

sent to the packing house, and from there

they are sent to a canning company that

sorts, washes, either cuts, dices, stews,

purees or leaves whole.  they are then put

into a can without the lid.  they are heated

to about 180 degrees and go under a machine that removes all the air and puts

the lid on.  they are packed into cardboard

cartons and may go 3,000 miles to the store

for sale, or they may sit on a shelf for

    1/2 a year before they're sold.

So now, back to the seed.  Do you really

think that poor little seed could go into

the ground and grow a plant?

  2. It's not stupid. But no, you can't because of the procedure and chemicals used to can the tomatoes.

  3. thats actually a good question, i never thought of it before. Id probably not. canned tomatoes are stored in water, and I don't think youre supposed to get seeds wet until you plant them. you never know though, unless you try. buying a packet of seeds is cheaper and easier, i reckon.

  4. Little,

No.  The seeds are similar to the plants they came from in that cooking them pretty much kills them.

  5. I really don't know but had to answer because the way you worded your question made me laugh.  I don't think it would hurt to try though.  I have planted a pepper plant from a seed of a pepper.

  6. The heat of processing would kill the seeds.

You can grow them from the seeds out of fresh tomatoes at the store tho.

  7. There is no such thing as a stupid answer, so pease do not put yourself down. I dont think it would work because the seeds have been through pretty severe processing. By the time we open the can they have been heated and thrown about too much. Seeds are delicate and need gentle treatment.
