  1. There are two great options you can use:

    combofix

    hijackthis

These two have saved me my computers several times

  2. "I'm trying uninstall all the antivirus except for McAffee."

If by this you mean you have more than one antivirus program on your computer, you do need to get rid of all except one.  They only come into conflict with each other.  For a back up scan, you can use online scanners such as Trend Housecall and Panda.

You may want to head to Major Geeks and follow this thread:

If you follow it carefully, your computer may be clean by the end of the thread.  If you still have more problems, you may want to join up and get one of the malware guys to give you a hand; they're great!  If you do need more help, check the stickies to see what you need to know before posting:

    :-)

  3. If you have Spybot Search and Destroy, then run that until it picks up no viruses. If you have Avira Anti-Virus run that too. After you run these a few times then you should be able to change your background. Before you do any of this make sure you have a lot of time on your hands because this will take about a total of three hours. If you don't have these programs you can download them on the internet. Just download them on your other laptop and save them to a cd or something. If you don't want to do all this then you should be able to do a system restore from the My Computer settings. If Spybot and Avira work always have all firewalls on.

Make sure you have 1 or 2 antispyware on your computer and 1 antivirus and also 1 firewall.

  6. You can free download antispyware 2008

http://www.anti-spyware-2008.com which is an essential tool to keep your system free of dangerous spywares, protecting your privacy and your PC.

It also works very well for me

  7. make a new user profile with admin privileges

I did that on my flaky vista, it worked great

I just use the admin profile now

  8. Unfortunately this is a nasty bit of spyware that is sometimes a bit hard to get rid of. I used spybot search and destroy to find the registry entries and delete them, then I used hijack this! to remove running processes. Google both of those programs, they're free and they helped me get rid of this, you will also have to edit your registry to allow yourself to change your background back to normal.

  9. Unless you are a computer professional, I don't recommend you go around editing your registry - you can render your computer useless if you erase the wrong thing.

Here's a great article about the message you are getting:
