will have the most viewable area?  In square inches.  A 32" wide screen (16 by 9 aspect ratio) or a traditional 32" regular tv (4 by 3 aspect ratio).Why?

  1. 32" Widescreen has 437.55 square inches.

    32" Standard Screen has 491.52 square inches.

    So-widescreens have less area than standard screens of the same size.

    Related to this fact is that if you want a widescreen with the same picture height as a standard screen you're replacing, you need a bigger set.

    For example, a 40" widescreen will replace a 32" standard screen.


  2. get a widescreen.  All nice tvs are now widescreen as 4:3 aspect ratios of older tvs actually crop off the ends of pictures to make them square.16:9 is the natural aspect ratio movies and HD programs are now broadcast in.
