Warrant issued against Vijay Mallya finally withdrawn – Formula 1 news
The warrant issued against Force India’s team Principal Vijay Mallya last week has been finally withdrawn today.
The warrant had been issued against Mallya when he failed to respond to court summons in a case brought against his Kingfisher Airlines. The airlines have been accused by the operator of an international airport in Hyderabad when the cheques issued by it
bounced.
Kingfisher was initially launched in 2005 named after Mallya’s very own famous beer brand. It has been constantly buried under debts and unpaid taxes. The Airlines has failed to pay salaries to its employees since April of this year. Kingfisher has been
surrounded by much hype as its pilots and engineers have refused to call off the strike. Following the strike, the business has been forced to shut down for more than two weeks now and does not plan to resume work before the 21st of this month.
Since the speculation over the issue has been rising and with the Indian Grand Prix approaching in ten days, Mallya’s team Force India has also been getting dragged into the hype. Not only Mallya had been absent at the Japanese and Korean Grands Prix but
also his whereabouts were unknown at the time the warrant was issued.
The deputy Principal for Force India, Rob Fernley, had cleared the air by insisting the issue will not have any effect on the team. He insisted that Force India was an entirely separate entity from the Kingfisher Airlines. He expressed his disappointment
with all the speculation about the team and said that Mallya was just being targeted with political propaganda. He had also stated that Mallya was never scheduled to be in Japan or Korea.
Previously lawyers for Kingfisher Airlines had requested for the warrant withdrawal but the judge had refused but their request seems to have gone through finally. The press trust of India quoted that the warrant has been withdrawn after the Kingfisher
Airlines agreed to pay almost two million dollars they owed in service charges. The Airlines is not out of the woods as India’s civil aviation regulator has recently demanded as to why their licence should not be cancelled.
