Warranty on electronics?

Question

Can you purchase a warranty on a product, such as a computer, after you've already purchased the computer?

Or do you have to purchase the item with the warranty at the same time??

This has happened to me but I got the warranty within a week of purchase

you have to return the product and then get it again with warranty

the only time that your able to get it is when buying the product
