Warren Buffet wants to have female members in Augusta National Golf Club
Warren Buffet, a member of the Augusta National Golf Club, wants to give opportunities to females by granting them memberships for the prestigious Club.
The billionaire investor wants to make the Masters' home more productive in managerial ways, by promoting a co-gender culture in the club.
"I'm not telling the group at Augusta what to do, but if I were running the club I'd have plenty of women," Buffett said. "I might prefer having female members, but I'm not on the committee”.
The Masters Tournament is the most popular major among the four. It is played every year and was established in 1934.
It has amazing history and every single player dreams to be in the Masters field, however, only leading golfers earn a chance to be at the Augusta every year.
In 2012, Bubba Watson was the proud winner of the title. He scored a 10-under 278, recording his debut win since turning professional in 2003.
Experts said that Buffet's plans are in favour of females. However, he is only a member, and isn't working as a committee member. Currently, he does not have the rights to allow women members in the club.
On April 4, a news conference was held before the Masters and the same issue was highlighted. The Augusta National Chairman, Billy Payne was unable to speak about the membership issues.
“We don't talk about our private deliberations,'' Payne said. “We especially don't talk about it when a named candidate is a part of the question”.
Buffet is the owner of the Berkshire Hathaway and his company has 5.5 percent shares in IBM, which means that Buffet is thinking beyond the traditional ways and wants to make golf attractive for both genders.
Despite male dominance in the sport, females are now more interested than ever. There are many tours committed to promote the women's golf. This is why females should be given a chance to take part in membership roles.
On the other hand, females can plan and also give meaningful input like their male counterparts. Their presence in the Augusta National Golf Club member’s team will definitely create a successful era for golf and golfers.
