Warren Gatland still positive about rugby World Cup in spite of poor form
Despite Wales’ recent poor form, Welsh Coach, Warren Gatland, still believes that his side will not be an easy opposition for the other teams in the upcoming rugby World Cup.
The Welsh team is under enormous amounts of pressure after their recent poor form. They have not been able to win a single Test match in the recently ended autumn season. They played a total of 7 matches during the season and lost 6 times and their one match
was drawn against a weaker side Fiji. Moreover, they have only won 2 matches out of the last 13 matches they played.
Gatland was talking to media after their defeat against All Blacks at Millennium Stadium last Saturday. He said, although his team did not perform well against the Southern Hampshire teams this month, still there are many positives, which he can take from
the poor performance.
He specially mentioned the performance of his players, who were playing as a team and scrum and said they played continuously well in the all matches and accuracy of the all players also seemed improved.
Furthermore, Gatland also spoke about injured players and said, their many key players, including Jamie Roberts, Leigh Halfpenny and Shane Williams were out of the team due to injuries, which disturbed team combinations and shackled the confidence of other
players as well and affected their performance. Gatland said, if Wales have their injured players back then it will make the team strong and Wales’ performance will improve.
He also talked about Gavin Henson, who is currently out from international rugby, as he is taking part in a dancing show on BBC and said, he still has a good future in rugby and he can be part of team if he proves his form and fitness in Aviva Premiership.
Wales still need him, he added.
Hanson has recently signed a new contract with London based club Saracens, as he wanted to give more time to his family, which is settled in London.
Talking about Wales’ performance in next year’s World Cup he said, the team is working on its weaknesses and he is pretty sure that players will fix their weaknesses and he is also hopeful that injured players will recover soon and his team will give a tough
time to other teams.
"We said about getting the ball off the park, we maybe need to do that a bit more, and look to improve our attacking play and kick chase as well - but having said that, we are pleased and proud of the players".
Former Scottish rugby hero Sir Ian McGeechan also supported Warren Gatland and said Gatland is the right person for the position he is currently holding. He said Wales’ policy to work for long periods under one management will definitely help them and he
is pretty sure that Welsh rugby fans will hear some good news from their team soon.
Wales will participate in Six Nations tournament before the World Cup. Their performance in the Six Nations will suggest their performance in the World Cup. So it will be a great opportunity for Wales to fix their all the problems before the Six Nations
and participate with confidence, as their good performance in Six nations will be the road to the World Cup title.
