Warren Gatland tries to inspire Wales to victory over South Africa says Adam Jones
Adam Jones, who has represented his national side in 70 International games, is hoping to clinch an important victory over the Springboks in their opening clash of Rugby World Cup 2011. Adam Jones told the media on September 8 that their coach, Warren Gatland,
is really inspiring his player to win the match.
The Welsh side will face the defending champs on September 11 at Wellington in a highly anticipated match. The fixture has got great importance for both sides as the victory will be very crucial for them to seal their position in the quarter-final stages.
Wales and South Africa have been placed in Pool D along with Namibia, Fiji and Samoa. The experts have rated the group the toughest amongst the other Pools as all the sides have got the ability to qualify for quarter-final stages.
Wales’ team has performed reasonably well in the Rugby World Cup warm-up matches and they are in good position to win against the Boks after 12 years in global show competitions. On the other hand, the Springboks are coming off from their lowest ebb in Tri-Nations
history as they won just one match after four outgoings.
Adam Jones told the media that Gatland is helping the team to make a good impression against Springboks and players are not wary of facing the defending champs. Jones claimed that, “Gats has installed a mentality that we can beat them and when we do, then
I think we will really push on. When I first started playing (for Wales), if we got within four or five points of South Africa, the champagne would be going in the changing room and we would be chuffed to bits.”
Talking about the intensity of the match, Jones said that, “This [Test] is probably one of the bigger games this weekend. It’s a big occasion that we have waited and trained hard for it. It’s massive.”
Adam Jones is one of the most capped players of the Wales with 70 test caps under his belt. He is also a consistent performer for his team since he made his debut in 2003.
