Warren Karsten clinches Men’s 50m breaststroke gold: Day seven - South African LC Nationals
Warren Karsten of KZNA-KZ clinched gold medal of the Men’s 50m breaststroke on seventh day of the South African Long Course Nationals at the KZN Aquatic-Kings Park Centre in Durban on Sunday, April 22.
The 21-year-old Karsten spoiled the party of his challengers by winning gold medal of the shortest breaststroke event. With his alluring efforts, he sustained his position in the final round of the event and lived up to the expectations of his supporters
by occupying the title of the event.
Karsten seized gold medal of the single-lap event by touching the wall with the timing of 29.10 seconds.
He was followed by his teammate, Rory L Buck, who stayed 0.06 seconds slower from his former finisher and finished second in the discipline by touching the wall with the timing of 29.16 seconds.
The 25-year-old Buck was chased by Jared C Pike of CGA-CG, who remained 0.10 seconds slower from his former finisher and touched the wall with the timing of 29.26 seconds for bronze medal of the discipline,
Pike remained just 0.04 seconds lucky from his following rival and his team-member, Kyle B Baxter, who settled on the finishing end as fourth position holder by touching the wall with the timing of 29.30 seconds.
Baxter was chased by Wesley Morris of EP-EP, who stayed only 0.12 seconds slower from his preceding swimmer and hit the finishing end with the timing of 29.42 seconds for fifth position.
The sixth spot of the race was obtained by Douglas Erasmus of NTS-NT, who was nearly 0.40 seconds away and tapped the wall with the timing of 29.85 seconds.
The 22-year-old Erasmus was chased by Fa Ruszczynski, who was just 0.01 seconds behind and reached the wall with the timing of 29.86 seconds.
Last spot of the race was secured by Timothy Ferris of ZIM-ZZ, who was 0.38 seconds behind and ended his race in a time of 30.24 seconds for eighth position.
Furthermore, the championship ended after the completion of all planned events while the position holders were invited on the victory stand for medals and accolades after the session.
