Warren Parker, Yu Guo continue their successful run in North Harbour Closed Championships 2012
Mixed Doubles campaigners Warren Parker and Yu Guo stepped forward in
North Harbour Closed Championships after thrashing Chris Bright-Anna Shrubshall on Monday, August 13, 2012.
This three-set match, played at Auckland in New Zealand, proved real test of their mental and physical toughness as both teams had to break their limits while piling up final figures of 20-21, 21-16 and 21-14.
There was lot of excitement in this encounter as Warren and Yu were at verge of woeful exit after losing the opening game but they came back from horrendous start and turned the tables in ending two games.
On the other hand, Chris and Anna could not make best out of their initial advantage and squandered their effort in crucial moments of the match.
The first set started with both teams striving hard to establish an early lead but none of them could hit the mark in the beginning.
Both teams were standing almost equal when Chris-Anna made a swift progress by prevailing in couple of uninterrupted rallies.
They carried this momentum all the way to final moments and wrapped the first set with a tight yet favourable margin of 21-20.
The following game changed the scenario as the opposing team switched on the best after going one down and managed to bring the contest to the right balance.
Though, the twosome of Warren and Yu took some time to come out of their rivals’ influence but they registered their class by putting a stunning performance in later part of the game.
They ended first half as leading contender but made real difference by grabbing valuable points in a row immediately after the interval.
They completely cornered their challengers with a flurry of masterly crafted strokes and stole the limelight with 21-16 score on the board.
This revised status turned the decider into a survival of the fittest as both teams were just one knock away from a splendid victory.
Conversely, this segment of tussle proved dead contest as Warren and Yu outclassed the opposing team in all areas of the court.
They mounted pressure with figure of 11 before half time and then magnified the impact with 21-14 margin.
