Warren Parker, Yu Guo stamp their class in Mixed Doubles event of North Harbour Closed Championships
Mixed Doubles partners Warren Parker-Yu Guo utilised their experience and brilliance in the game and enthralled Niccolo Tagle-Rayna Phillips in North Harbour Closed Championships on August 13, 2012.
This hard fought battle took place in local badminton arena of Auckland in New Zealand and it kept both teams busy for three gruelling sets before ending with 21-10, 11-21 and 21-17 margin.
The victorious duo put up a fluctuated performance but still they managed to raise hands as champions in the end.
Meanwhile, the opposing team could not play according to the plans and surrendered in opening and closing segments of the tussle.
Warren and Yu laid the foundation of their supremacy straight away in very first game as they concluded this set with a notable difference of eleven points.
They set the ball rolling by dominating their rivals in couple of opening rallies and then mounted pressure with few successive points.
They did not lose this tempo and finished the first half with an indomitable total of 11. They made best out of this initial advantage and doubled their lead in third quarter of the set.
They did not allow their challengers to bounce back and stamped them with 21-10 score on the board.
However, their supremacy was short lived as their opponents showed transformed character in very next game and brought contest to the right balance.
The twosome of Niccolo and Rayna played with great precision and did not allow their competitors to seal a straight-set victory.
They remained focused even after first set loss and made difference in first half of the second game. They maintained this upper hand also in third quarter of the set and left the opposing team far behind with a striking knock of 21-11.
Third set proved best part of the encounter as both teams strived hard to pocket the final match point. They snapped each other’s heels in most part of this crucial set and neither could gain a permanent lead.
The decider was on knife’s edge in final phase when Warren Parker-Yu Guo struck hard and tipped the scale in their favour with 21-17 margin.
