Warren Spector warns against underestimating Nintendo – Gaming news
Epic Mickey and Deus Ex designer Warren Spector is still optimistic about Nintendo’s chance to make a solid impact in the market, asserting that the company is more than capable of making a turn-around.
During an interview with GameSpot, the industry veteran made no effort to hide his enthusiasm for the company that gifted the world gems such as Mario Bros. and Zelda.
On the contrary, he came out to openly admit his enthusiasm for Nintendo and stressed on the need for more companies in the gaming industry that were dedicated to games instead of other things.
"I've been pretty up front about my enthusiasm for Nintendo. I think we need a company that's dedicated to games. Every time I visit Nintendo, I'm relieved to have spent time in a place where you can just feel how much everyone loves games," Spector said.
Spector went on to add that the industry analysts had underestimated Nintendo in the past, clearly referring to the time the company had launched Wii video game console, i.e. final quarter of 2006.
At that time, the industry analysts had predicted that the comparatively weak console in terms of performance capabilities stood no chance against the likes of Sony’s and Microsoft’s current-generation consoles, namely the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 respectively.
Contrary to the predictions, the performance of Wii in the market had been nothing short of impressive, thus proving the industry analysts wrong.
Nintendo finds itself in a similar situation since launching its next-generation console, Wii U, in the final quarter of 2012.
The industry analysts are once again expecting it to make little to no impact, especially with Sony and Microsoft all set to release their high-end consoles by the end of this year.
The sales figures of Nintendo’s new consoles have not been very impressive, though the company is aiming to change this by preparing a three-pronged strategy, which involves releasing first-party titles regularly, improving its messaging tactics and reducing
the cost of manufacturing consoles.
Nintendo will hold a Nintendo Direct video presentation in June to share some of the company’s vision of its future with the stakeholders.
