Warren capitalizes on Hatton bashing a second time
Frank Warren has helped himself to another round of customary Ricky Hatton slamming.
Warren suggested on Thursday that the British Boxing Board of Control (BBBC) strip Hatton of his promotional license days after the fighter and promoter was caught doing cocaine.
On Monday, Warren spoke briefly about the incident and vaguely implied that Hatton shouldn’t be stepping into the ring anytime in the future.
Today, he went a step further, saying, “He’s been boozing for years, it’s no secret that’s what he chooses to do. It’s sad that he does it and to the excess that he does it and it’s not been good for him.”
He continued, “He’s been doing it since I was promoting him, and we tried hard to get him to stop doing it, but he hasn’t done it and one thing leads to another sometimes when people have got addictions [...] His life now is promoting and managing, and my
point is you can’t have somebody who is mentoring young fighters behaving the way he has done.”
Warren formerly promoted Hatton and helped him ascend the boxing rankings. After he won the IBF junior welterweight title in 2006, the two split acrimoniously.
After The News of the World published a video that depicted the fighter with the illicit substance, a spokesperson quickly verified the information, and said Hatton was extremely disappointed, and felt he had let everyone down.
Hatton checked into a rehabilitation facility Tuesday.
As well as the BBBC, the local authorities have said that they will be looking into the case and dishing out the necessary charges.
Hatton was reportedly out on a ‘ten-hour binge,’ which included several pints of Guinness, vodka, and other illicit substances, which he took in a hotel washroom before going out to a Manchester club. Hatton was partying with Irish women’s boxing champion
Emma Bowe, who has offered subsequent information to The News of the World in the interest of Hatton’s well-being.
