Warring Werder Bremen players still at it
There is no end in sight in the ongoing rift between Werder Bremen team-mates Tim Wiese and Aaron Hunt.
The feud started when Wiese said in an interview that Hunt is an inadequate replacement for Mesut Ozil, who transferred to Spanish La Liga giants Real Madrid this season.
"We are missing Oezil in every way. He did not only score important goals for the team but he also set many up," Wiese said.
Hunt was not amused with Wiese's comments and hit back at the team's goalkeeper. "Tim has shown little thought in his statement but we know that we have come to expect that from him," he said.
Wiese responded again, insisting that he is entitled to his own opinion. "I don't care what Aaron says. If I have an opinion, I will continue to hold it," he said.
Hunt has played in all seven games in the Bundesliga this season but has yet to score a goal. The 24-year-old, who made nine goals and five assists last season, has so far made two assists in the domestic
competition this year.
The rift between the two stars is expected to add to the struggling club's woes this season. Plagued by injuries to key players, Werder have only secured eight points from seven matches to sit in 13th
spot.
The squad are coming off a 2-2 draw against Bayer Leverkusen. They will host Freiburg on Saturday. Werder were crushed by Italian giants Inter Milan 0-4 in their last UEFA Champions League outing, and
will face Twente Enschede on Wednesday.
The good news for the club is that several injured players have returned to training. Among those who will see action soon are midfielders Torsten Frings and Tim Borowski and defender Clemens Fritz. Peruvian
striker Claudio Pizarro is also set to make his return.
