Warrington Wolves and Leeds Rhinos compete for a spot in the Final of Super league
The Engage Super League qualifying semi-final is scheduled to kick-off today, September 30, at the Halliwell Jones Stadium, between Leeds Rhinos and the league toppers, Warrington Wolves.
Wolves are eyeing a place in the Super League final along with a number of changes in their outfit. Paul Wood will be the only injury casualty from Wolves to miss the clash. Meanwhile, Ben Westwood is all set to return on-field after a one and half month
absence from rugby on account of a knee injury.
Wolves have their skipper, Adrian Morley, back after an unexpected speedy recovery from a very recent eye-surgery. The operation was necessary for the correction of the player’s double vision problem. The player was injured with a head knock during the clash
against St. Helens last June.
Leeds’ 19-man squad will be soldiering into combat on full throttle as Carl Ablett will be seen back on-field after recovering from a head injury that kept him off-field from Rhinos’ last two encounters. Kallum Watkins will be the only player from Leeds
to miss Friday’s showdown.
For Leeds this will be the sixth time they are in contention for the final berth out of a total of eight attempts made so far. Wolves, who are topping the league charts, are reaching out for the Grand Final for the very first time and are currently the favourites
in the Super League with a huge difference of 13 points on the tables.
Both sides of the clash are in tight competition because Rhinos have a strong Grand Final experience whereas the Wolves, with the highest points scored, is presently the darling amongst the Super League teams.
However, for the very first time since 2001, Rhinos have slipped down from the top four spots within the league hierarchy. Also, the current Super League season saw Leeds beaten by Wolves twice, which is speculated by many rugby league game analysts to be
the reason behind Wolves’ being favourites this time also.
