Warrington Wolves’ inspirational session with Roy Keane sweeps them to victory over Wildcats
On Friday, the Manchester United and Republic of Ireland football legend Roy Keane had held the inspirational talk with the Warrington Wolves which paved way to their massive victory of 66-12 against their stark rivals, the Wakefield Trinity Wildcats, on
Sunday, August 14.
With this victory bagged, the Wolves have sustained their leading position within the league table which is just a point ahead of Wigans, who are sitting on the second spot within the league hierarchy.
Keane was welcomed to the club to talk about his distinguished career profile, which grew into a possibility as he had attended the quarter-final of Challenge Cup against the Wigan.
The session of the Wolves with Keane boosted up the morale of the players and may have played a part in bagging the Sunday night’s glorious win. Wolves managed to bag the win despite recent loss of players who were no more part of the squad as they were
seriously injured.
Tony Smith, who head coaches the Wolves, shared that the session of the exchange of thoughts proved beneficial for the club a lot. It was also told that this session was carried out as a result of Mike Clegg’s links to the United.
According to the Smith, Mike had asked Keane if could share his experiences with the Wolves.
He was also of the opinion that this move of Keane to talk with the team just before the clash between two leading franchises on the rugby table, led to Wolves hefty success.
Smith branded it as a huge opportunity for his club, and was amazed when Roy spoke his heart out which was considered by him a unique opportunity for his club.
Smith stated, “It was a great insight into the man. He’s a terrific man, I’ve got a lot of time for him and it was a privilege to have someone like him come and talk to us.”
While speaking about his outfit’s game plan, Smith shared that it was true that Wildcats were not vigilant with their defence which created opportunities for them. He also admitted that his squad was watchful of the opportunities thrown at them by the Wildcats
as there were plenty of those.
While reflecting on their key to success with a huge victory over the Wildcats, Wakefield’s coach puts it this way, “We were guilty of overplaying at times, but we are a team that encourages players to go for something if they see it and they saw plenty
of things out there today. Sometimes our execution wasn't as sharp as we'd like it to be but all credit to Wakey because they kept on playing.”
