I have to write a review on this book for school, and one question is what the time period of the book is.

Would it be the 1950s, or would it be like, during integration and segregation?

I'm confused as to if it means specific years, or what was going on in the country at that time.

And if possible, what was the thesis for this book, and using ideas from the book, why you think that is the correct thesis.
