Warriors claim Champions League Final place
The Warriors set up a meeting with the Chennai Super Kings in the Champions League Twenty20 final on Sunday after a 30-run victory over South Australia at Centurion.
The platform for the semi-final victory for the Warriors was set up by a 104-run stand for the second wicket between Colin Ingram (46) and Davy Jacobs (61, pictured) which helped set a target of 176 that had South Australia chasing the game pretty much from the start, and that was despite an early breakthrough.
Shaun Tait had Ashwell Prince caught by Daniel Harris for a duck off the second delivery of his first over but that brought Ingram to the crease and he feasted on the spin bowling of Aaron O'Brien. In tandem with Jacobs the pair racked up the half-century in 29 balls, before Jacobs reached his own 50 from 32 deliveries.
Ingram was granted a life on 38 when Tom Cooper dropped a regulation chance at long-off and the batsmen pushed the Warriors’ total past 100 in the 11th over, before the stand was broken by Jacobs was caught and bowled by Harris, who finished with figures of 3-18. After that Craig Thyssen (one), Mark Boucher (25) and Johan Botha (six) struggled, but Nicky Boje smashed the best part of 23 from Daniel Christian's last over to help the Warriors reach 175-6.
After the change South Australia were kept on the back foot as Lonwabo Tsotsobe grabbed the early wickets of Harris (eight) and Michael Klinger (13). As South Australia regrouped Callum Ferguson cracked a fighting 71, but there were not enough fireworks from the other end of the wicket the Redbacks, who had been unbeaten until this match, had to settle for 145-7 from their 20 overs.
