Warriors star David Lee out for the rest of what has been the best season of his career – NBA Update
Golden State Warriors centre David Lee is done for whatever is left of the regular season. The Warriors star scored 30 points and hauled down eight rebounds in Friday night’s games against the Dallas Mavericks, but felt a little
sore after the game. After an MRI, it was revealed an injury to his hip and groin area.
Lee has had a very good season. The 6 feet 9 inch centre averaged 20.1 points, 9.6 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game. He also had a good field goal average of 50.3% and an above average free throw percentage of 78.2%. In fact,
his free throw average has been sensational when compared to other centres and big guys in the NBA.
With Monta Ellis now in Milwaukee Bucks, Stephen Curry on the bench, and Andrew Bogut still in civilian suit, Lee now forms the foundation around which this team is looking to rebuild into a competitive NBA franchise. That is why;
they have decided to shut him down for the remaining season. Naturally, Lee was very disappointed when he got the news, and revealed later that he expected to play Saturday night for the Warriors despite the pain.
“It's unfortunate, because I wanted to finish out the season strong. I was willing to go through any means necessary to try to play these last games, but the doctors didn't leave any gray area for me" said Lee referring to his
injury
During the course of the season, Lee has become a central figure in the Warriors team, with his team mates beginning to rely on him more and more. He has improved his game a great deal, which has led to him getting more attention
on the offense.
“It's disappointing because of my competitiveness, and I don't want to let down my teammates. They've started to rely on me a lot, and I consider myself a leader. To have to cheer from the bench, instead of being on the court helping
the guys, is going to be tough" said Lee.
Lee was court side in uniform during the Warriors Saturday night game against the Clippers as he did not bring a suit with him on the away trip expecting to play despite feeling pain in his hip and groin area.
With the season over for Lee and Warriors not making the trip to the playoffs anyway, Lee now should now look forward to next season. Warriors star players Stephen Curry and Andrew Bogut will be back from injuries by then and together
with them, Lee can form a lethal partnership. Maybe next year can be the one in which the Warriors become serious contenders for the playoffs.
