Warwick and Uttoxeter meetings subject to inspection
The Saturday meetings at Warwick and Uttoxeter are subject to inspection on Thursday, February 9, 2012, as the freezing weather in England has damaged some parts of the racecourses.
Horse Racing fans in the United Kingdom have been deprived of action over the past couple of weeks, as most of the venues have been affected badly due to freezing temperatures, which have remained below freezing point.
The situation was not that bad at the start of winter, and many races were held as per schedule. However, the extreme weather started causing panic among the race organisers in England, as most of the tracks were badly affected.
Due to this situation, many races had to be cancelled over the past few days, as the organisers were completely helpless.
Warwick and Uttoxeter are currently facing a similar situation, as both racecourses are covered with snow. Moreover, the forecast also tells that the weather is likely to remain below freezing point for the next few days, which has concerned the officials
at both venues.
Sulekha Varma, clerk of the Warwick course, claimed that the temperatures had dropped down over the past couple of days, and that things were slightly looking better. However, the weather started getting worse once again, and the mercury fell to minus
six degrees Celsius last night.
This has almost made it certain that Warwick will lose the Saturday meeting, but a final decision will be taken after an inspection is carried out.
According to Varma, “There is snow still covering the majority of the hill although other areas are generally clear. It is not due to get much above three degrees and unless that forecast is very different we have not got much of a chance.”
On the other hand, things are also looking bad for Uttoxeter, as the organisers believe thick covering of snow on the track will lead to abandonment of the event.
Clerk of the course, Charlie Moore stated, “There's still half an inch of snow on 80 per cent of the track and sufficient areas are frozen solid to give us cause for concern. We will inspect on Thursday but we're going to need some help.”
