Warwickshire 2nd XI edge to a three-wicket win over Derbyshire 2nd XI: Second Eleven Trophy
Warwickshire 2nd XI clinched a three-wicket victory over the Derbyshire 2nd XI team in a match of the Second Eleven Trophy, at the Bulls Head Ground, Coventry in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 on Friday, July 15, 2011.
The visitors posted 222 runs for victory on the board, which was achieved by the Warwickshire 2nd XI batsmen, losing seven wickets in the end. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Christopher-Liam-Metters-c50912 made the difference for the hosts, as he remained unbeaten in both his outings and scored
half-centuries.
The home team’s skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ateeq-Javid-c1104 won the toss and elected to field first. He expected the bowlers to get some assistance in the first couple of sessions, but the decision didn’t prove to be a good one in the end, as the Derbyshire 2nd XI collected
349 runs for the loss of six wickets (declared) in their outing.
The start to the visitors’ innings was a spectacular one, as the openers http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Paul-Borrington-c2162 and Matt Lineker collected 168 runs for the first wicket partnership. They didn’t play any rash strokes and laid a solid platform for the lower-order batsmen.
Borrington was the first man to be dismissed in the innings after collecting 66 runs. His partner didn’t miss-out on an opportunity to make a big impression though, as he scored 125 runs before being dismissed.
There wasn’t any significant performance from the team’s middle-order and the innings was declared at 349/6.
The hosts’ new ball bowler http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Andrew-R-Miller-c44564 picked up a couple of wickets in the innings.
Warwickshire 2nd XI’s start to their first innings was miserable, as they lost three wickets for just 22 runs on the board. However, a century stand between Ben http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Williams-c98034 and Javid guided the team out of trouble.
Both batsmen scored half-centuries in their respective outings, scoring 52 and 59 runs, but wickets started to tumble once they got out. The innings was then stabilised by Metters and Naqaash Tahir, who put together 126 runs for the ninth wicket partnership.
The latter was dismissed after scoring 57 runs, but his partner at the other end remained unbeaten on 72, guiding his side to 283.
J Sherriff was in menacing form, picking up 4/14 in his superb spell for the visitors.
Derbyshire 2nd XI’s batting failed miserably in their second outing, as the entire team was bundled-up for 155 runs. The team’s skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jake-Needham-c65352 was the top scorer with 54 runs, setting a target of 222 for the opposition.
Tom Allin led the fight back for the hosts, picking up a six-wicket haul in the innings.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Warwickshire-c862 2nd XI’s innings was pathetic at the start, as the team lost six wickets for just 42 runs on the board. However, Metters and Allin put together a spectacular 158-run stand for the seventh wicket, guiding their team to a terrific win.
The latter got dismissed after scoring 85 runs, but Metters remained unbeaten on 81 until the end.
Alasdair Evans tried his best to guide the visitors to victory, but his effort went in vain. He picked up three wickets in the innings.
