Warwickshire gain control against Somerset: County Championship Division One- 2nd Day's Recap
Warwickshire were in a very good position against Somerset in a match of the County Championship Division One, at the Edgbaston, Birmingham in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013, on Tuesday, June 21, 2011.
The visitors were bowled out for 262 in their outing, but struggled to restrict the opposition to a lesser total, as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Close-c51347 of the second day’s play. The highlight of the innings was a terrific
century from opening batsman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ian-Westwood-c1573.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Marcus-Trescothick-c1898, who leads the Somerset side, won the toss and opted to bat first on a good batting pitch. However, his side failed to post a solid total, as the batsmen got out to lose strokes.
The start to Somerset’s innings was a positive one, as their openers, Trescothick and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Arul-Suppiah-c1084 constructed a 50-run stand. The latter failed to carry onto the start to his innings and was sent back to the pavilion after adding just 23 runs to the total.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/C-Kieswetter-c1206, who failed to make an impression and returned to the hut after scoring four and zero
respectively.
The next wicket to fall in the innings was http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Adam-Richard-Griffith-c41953 one for his team.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Peter-David-Trego-c81582 steadied the ship for the visitors, collecting 75 runs for the sixth wicket partnership. They scored 48 and 56 in their respective outings, before being dismissed.
The tail-enders didn’t last long and the entire Somerset team was sent back to the dressing room for just 262 runs on the board.

In reply, Warwickshire were given an outstanding start by their openers, Westwood and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Varun-Chopra-c2745. The pair collected 202 runs for the first wicket before the latter finally got dismissed after scoring 85 runs.
Westwood was the next man to go, but he didn’t miss-out on an opportunity to score a ton and scored 129 runs in his outing.
The Irish skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/WTS-Porterfield-c2801, also did a decent job, scoring 72 runs. However, the lower-order batsmen failed to score too many runs and the home team ended the day on 398/7.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Murali-Kartik-c78034 managed to grab a couple of wickets in the day, but the rest of the bowlers failed to cause too many problems for the batsmen.
