The hosts batted superbly, posting 273 runs for the loss of eight wickets in their allotted 40 overs. All-rounder http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rikki-Clarke-c85428 was the star of the show for his side, collecting 63 runs towards the end of the innings.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/James-Vince-c1657 was the top scorer of the innings and the match with 82 runs, but failed to guide his side to victory, as there was not much support for
him from the other end.
Warwickshire’s captain, Jim Troughton, won the toss and opted to bat first. The conditions were very good for the batsmen, as there was no moisture in the wicket at all. It was hard and the ball came with a consistent pace and bounce onto the bat.
The decision to bat first proved to be a very good one for the home team despite losing one wicket early. Opening batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Varun-Chopra-c2745 failed to make most of the good conditions, getting out cheaply for four runs.
However, Neil Carter and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/WTS-Porterfield-c2801 laid a solid platform for the middle-order batsmen, scoring a half-century partnership. They put together 67 runs for the second wicket partnership before Carter was dismissed.
The seasoned opener contributed 53 runs off 36 balls to the total with the help of nine fours and one massive six. He came out in an aggressive mood and showed no mercy to the opposition’s bowlers.
Porterfield also batted well, but missed-out on a half-century by just nine runs. He was the third man to be dismissed in the hosts’ innings. The Irishman added 41 runs to the total with the help of five boundaries.
Wicketkeeper batsman Tim Ambrose failed to make an impression and was sent back to the pavilion after adding just 13 runs to the total.
However, Clarke and Troughton batted magnificently, collecting 60 runs for the fifth wicket partnership. They gave a wonderful momentum to the innings, scoring runs at a very good pace.
The team’s skipper was dismissed after adding 61 runs to the total off 62 balls with the help of four fours and one towering six. He was followed by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Keith-Henderson-Barker-c70622 and Ant Botha, who failed to get going and were dismissed for four and one respectively.
However, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Clarke-c51120 batted until the end of the innings and scored 63 runs from just 47 deliveries. He hammered eight fours and one thunderous six in his impressive knock, guiding the team to 273.
