Jonathan Trott and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sussex-c852, posting 281 for 5 at stumps, played at the County Ground, Hove, on April 27, 2012.
It was Trott’s first appearance of the English season and he did not disappoint, reaching an unbeaten 132 before the close of play – his innings oozed class. He was well supported by Varun Chopra, who also scored an authoritative ton, as the duo ensured
that their side maintained their impressive start to current campaign.
The beginning to the match was uneasy, after http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Luke-Wells-c1859, while the latter
again struggled to find his form – sent back on duck after being cleaned up by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/James-Anyon-c1637.
However, the early setback did not deter the century duo, who rescued their side from a precarious 13 for 2, and dominated the subsequent exchanges – adding 219 for the third wicket. Their partnership was convincing to say the least, with the first hundred-run
stand reached in just 22 overs.
Chopra’s knock, which included 15 boundaries, was brought to an end by the part-time spin of Luke Wells, after which http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Monty-Panesar-c2024 got rid of skipper, Jim Troughton (12). Magoffin then returned for a late spell and caught Darren Maddy in front of the stumps
to halt the batting side’s in the latter stages of the day.
However, Trott again held one end strong, showing no signs of nerves at the close of play – remaining unbeaten, alongside Chris Wright (15).
After the conclusion of Day 1, Trott defended his national teammate Bell.
"He'll be all right," Trott said. "There are always things you can improve on as a batter," he added. "It's a very fickle game. You can't say that because you have had a good Test series you will come into first-class cricket and do really well. Belly and
myself are working just as hard as each other. Sometimes it pays off, sometimes it doesn't."
