Warwickshire vs Unicorns – Clydesdale Bank 40 Group C – Maddy, Woakes help Warwickshire earn convincing win
A brisk half-century from Darren Maddy and a three-wicket haul for Chris Waokes helped Warwickshire earn a comfortable 60-run victory over Unicorns in the Group C clash of the Clydesdale competition, played at Edgbaston, Birmingham, on July 22, 2012.
The hosts posted a decent enough 228 and made easy work of the touring side, halting them on 168, with the only notable innings coming from veteran skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Keith-Alan-Parsons-c70573, who ended up making 58.
Opting to bat first, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Varun-Chopra-c2745, with the former scoring 24 of the first 37 runs before becoming a victim of Warren Lee. The 24-year-old pacer then struck in his next over, removing skipper Jim Troughton, for naught.
However, the home side still accumulated steadily, first through Chopra and Tim Ambrose, both of whom added 47 for the third wicket. Ambrose was caught lbw on an individual score 28, after which Maddy aided the opener for the fourth-wicket stand of 57.
Chopra eventually perished off slow left-armer, LE Beaven, for a well made 69 but Maddy continued his assault despite none of last six batters reaching double figures. The veteran batsman notched up 79 off just 56 balls, including 8 fours and two sixes, taking his team to 228.
The reply had started off cautiously but soon turned into disaster as Woakes ran through the top order. He pinned opener http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Luis-Michael-Reece-c73255 in the space of three deliveries to reduce the batting side to 25 for 3 in 7.3 overs.

Parsons was the next to depart on a well made 58, which included five fours and one six, to leave the team in dire straits at 119 for 5. The late order rallied on for a while but the damage had already been done.
Unicorns finally ended on 168 for 7 in 40 overs, leaving them just a point ahead of bottom side http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sussex-c852, having played a game less.
