  1. There is no proof whatsoever that this is true.  Even if he was..what does that prove?  That all vegetarians are butchers?  That would make all meat eaters just like Jeffrey Dahmer with that philosophy.  Last I heard, he was a huge sausage fan...that doesn't sound like a vegetarian to me.

This rumor was made up by those against vegetarianism.

  2. "He practiced some form of vegetarianism.[2] The vegetarianism of Adolph Hitler is thought to have been based on Richard Wagner's anti-Semitic historical theories[3] which connected the future of Germany with vegetarianism.[4][5] Hitler believed that a vegetarian diet could both alleviate his personal health problems and spiritually regenerate the human race.[5] In spite of these beliefs, reports state that Hitler occasionally ate meat during the 1930s".........

  3. Wikipedia is not real "source," it's a compilation site and almost any moron can put "facts" on it.  You should read a reliable biography of Hitler if you want information.  You should read several, including one that accounts for any differences between them.

That said, why do people always bring up Hitler here?  Is the inference that if Hitler was a vegetarian, vegetarianism is therefore evil and wrong (and will possibly cause you to commit genocide?)?

Pamela Anderson is a vegan and so am I.  That doesn't mean I'm a bleached blonde has-been with 3 ex-husbands.

  4. He apparently tried to be a vegetarian but several sources indicate that he "ocassionally lapsed" into eating meat. That doesn't count as a real vegetarian as far as I'm concerned.

  5. Hitlers vegertaism has been questioned ALOT.

Hitler believed that a vegetarian diet could both alleviate his personal health problems and spiritually regenerate the human race. In spite of these beliefs, reports state that Hitler occasionally ate meat during the 1930s. While Hitler reduced his meat consumption, he may have not eliminated it entirely, with culinary accounts indicating a sporadic preference for sausage, squab, liver dumplings, ham, and caviar.

Most of Adolf Hitler's biographers assert that he was a vegetarian from 1931 until his death in 1945.

    BUT

Belgian SS General, and friend of Hitler's, Léon Degrelle wrote: "He could not bear to eat meat, because it meant the death of a living creature. He refused to have so much as a rabbit or a trout sacrificed to provide his food. He would allow only eggs on his table, because egg-laying meant that the hen had been spared rather than killed."

Author Rynn Berry maintains that although Hitler reduced the amount of meat in his diet, he never stopped eating meat completely for any significant length of time. Berry argues that many historians use the term 'vegetarian' incorrectly to describe someone who simply reduced their meat consumption.

Traudl Junge, who became Hitler's secretary in 1942, reported that he "always avoided meat" but that his Austrian cook Kruemel sometimes added a little animal broth or fat to his meals. "Mostly the Fuehrer would notice the attempt at deception, would get very annoyed and then get tummy ache," Junge said. "At the end he would only let Kruemel cook him clear soup and mashed potato."

    who knows?

    people say different things.

  6. That's crazy.

  7. So, if he was a vegetarian and an animal lover, what? That does not make him a better person, nor does it change history and all the terrible things he and his men did.

  8. Good question.

The funny thing about this is that a lot of animal lovers are not people lovers.

I know Hitler loved animals(* see his private films).

Also someone posted something about Richard Wagner ( the composer).

That's where it all gets interesting.

Hitler was Wagner fanatic. Wagner was exremely anti-semetic and wrote about ridding Germany of the Jewish race way before Hitler was born.

There is an interview ( done in the 60's) with Hitlers best childhood friend.

He actually said that Hitler was quite normal until the day that they went to a Wagner concert.( Hitlers 1st).

His remarks on this event were pretty clear cut and chilling.

He said that when they entered the concert floor, Hitler was quite his normal self but after the concert he said "That's when it all began".

He  was no longer the same person.

So Hitler was influeced greatly by a mad man like himself( yes Wagner was a nut who wrote some of the greatest music ever).

(getting lost in though about the Wagner-Hitler connection).

    Quite an interesting topic.

He was not a complete vegetarian. He believed in it but would eat meat in front of important people not to look weak( his image was very important to him).

  9. No. See this:

"Why Hitler Was Not a Vegetarian"

    http://www.vegsource.com/berry/hitler.ht...

Robert Payne, Albert Speer, and other well-known Hitler biographers have mentioned Hitler's enjoyment of non-vegetarian foods like Bavarian sausages, ham, liver, and game.

Hitler actually banned vegetarian organizations in Germany and the occupied countries. He wouldn't have done this if he had actually been a vegetarian himself.

In her Gourmet Cooking School Cookbook (1964), Lucas drew on her experiences as a hotel chef in Hamburg during the 1930s. She remembered being called upon quite often to prepare Hitler's favorite dish, which was not a vegetarian one. 'I do not mean to spoil your appetite for stuffed squab,' she writes, 'but you might be interested to know that it was a great favorite with Mr. Hitler, who dined at the hotel often. Let us not hold that against a fine recipe though.'

"According to the widely believed legend, he neither smoked nor drank, nor did he eat meat or have anything to do with women. Only the first was true. He drank beer and diluted wine frequently, had a special fondness for Bavarian sausages and kept a mistress."

Squab (meat from young pigeons) and Bavarian sausages are not vegetarian.

  10. At various times Hitler reduced the amount of meat in his diet, primarily for medical reasons. Sometimes he reduced it a lot but the evidence shows that he never stopped eating meat completely for any significant length of time. Unfortunately many meat-eaters, including historians, use the term 'vegetarian' incorrectly to describe someone who simply reduced their meat consumption. The confusion was compounded by Goebbels, grossly exagerating Hitler's 'vegetarianism' for propaganda purposes.

“Under the headline, ‘Don’t Put Hitler Among the Vegetarians,’ the correspondent (Richard Schwartz, author of Judaism and Vegetarianism) pointed out that Hitler would occasionally go on vegetarian binges to cure himself of excessive sweatiness and flatulence, but that his main diet was meat-centered.”

Please check your sources because there are specific referances to Hitlers doctor specifically documenting medical records stating that hitler was put on a strick vegetarian diets. The reason was to cure Hitler of fatulence and digestive problems. He was NOT A PHILOSOPHICAL VEGETARIAN!

  11. he was partly veggie...

but for health reasons...he still ate sausages, bacon and ham (all from a pig).

he didn't love animals as he tried out the poison he wanted to commit suicide with on his dog first...

  12. i have no idea......although i find it hard to believe that someone who didn't give a shite about murdering people was against the slautering of animals and wouldn't eat meat....

  13. "The funny thing about this is that a lot of animal lovers are not people lovers."

I totally agree with this comment from JC. I am one such person. Love animals, not too keen on people though.

  14. I think I heard this too, but he wasn't really a vegetarian because he would still eat meat sometimes.

Apparently he couldn't have been an animal lover because people are animals too :p

  15. Some people call him a vegetarian but he ate fish.
