Was Alicia Sacramone unfairly scored below the Chinese girl, Cheng Fei?

Cheng Fei actually fell on her vault and still managed to score higher. Was her difficulty score really enough to counterbalance the fall?

  1. I completely agree that Alicia should have received higher scores than Cheng Fei. She totally messed up on her vault, but still won the bronze? I'm not an international judge, but based on what I saw, Alicia should have a bronze around her neck instead of Cheng.

  2. They used difficulty of the format as an excuse and contribution of "start values". There has to be a way to eliminate this start values due to poor execution!

The Korean went out of bounds TWICE and got ahead because of "start values". Cheng Fei fell on the knees but won it anyway because of "start values".

Then why not pretend you are able to do the movement difficulty at start values 9 or 10 and then skip or mess the last movement and get 7 as execution. You will win gold at 16/17 scores!

Yes, the score was unfair and there's a loophole in the start values.

  3. I feel like flying over there and beat up all those judges.  It was very difficult to see Sacramone, almost in tears, sitting in fourth.  She should have gotten bronze, so.... yea Alicia was scored unfairly.

  4. No, you need to learn how the scoring system works.

The Chinese girl had much higher start values (both 6.5), so even with a mistake as big as a fall, she could still place ahead of Alicia who had lower start values (6.3 and 5.8).

Cheng Fei had execution scores of 8.5.. so she was deducted plenty for her fall (0.8) plus other errors in that vault.

The winner also had high start values and was deducted for lading out of bounds, (0.3)..

  5. Yeah. Alicia was unfairly scored and she got robbed of a bronze medal.

    Good luck

  6. I think Alicia should have won bronze. Even Bela said that the scores were unfair. I feel so bad for Alicia! :(

  7. OHMYGOD!!!

i have been waiting for this question for sooooooooo freaking long!!!!

the judges were completely unfair!!!! alicia's vault thing was perfect!!! she did absolutely awesome!!!

when i saw the score, i couldn't believe it, and i thought that the judges made a mistake, but the friggin judges are so stupid

they can't tell between landing on the knee and the foot....

alicia was robbed!!!!! she's an awesome gymnast, the olympics definitely was not her best performance, but shes an awesome gymnast. She definitely deserved the bronze....the judges should have be hanged

i find it amazing that alicia could be an elite gymnast and at the same time, have a life (very much like shawn johnson), and very unlike the chinese gymnasts.....

though their performance was good too, but the story on cheng fei on the vault.....NO. that is one bed-time story i am never gonna tell my future kids...

  8. how about how chen fei landed with her right foot outside the line on the first vault but NOBODY mentioned it nor was  she penalized for it, and when the Brazilian chick landed outside EVERYBODY saw it!!  Alicia Sacramone can OBVIOUSLY land between the lines.  Things that make you go "Hmm?" As Bela Karoli stated "this is a rip off!'  My husband also says don't be surprised if you hear that some of these judges buy property in China in the near future.

  9. Yes, she was.  I am sick of having people explain this new scoring system...because it doesn't make any sense.  How is it fair to reward athletes for merely attempting a more difficult routine?  That means that you are already starting out in the hole before you even begin if you don't do as difficult a routine but you execute it flawlessly nevertheless.  Why should they get higher points for executing a more difficlut routine poorly?  It's the same thing they do in skating...if you attempt a quadruple jump, you are rewarded even if you ultimately land on your behind after the attempt.  The whole system is flawed.

  10. it would be understandable if she fell to her knees but she landed with her knees. alicia was robbed this morning (thats when it happened). i wish she stays in gymnastics and doesnt retire.

  11. Yes. Cheng fell on her knees. Alicia did great!
