Question:

Was Big Brown running?

It didn't look like it. He loped pretty much every part of the race. He could have been racing nags! The time shows it: never exerted, saving for the Belmont with a time of 1:54 4/5! He didn't even need a fast time - though he probably could've broken 1:54, perhaps, if he tried.

On to the triple, then.

  1. He looked good. Seemed he didn't even break a sweat until the last 3/8 of a mile.  His jockey, Kent, rode a smart ride. :)

  2. Yeah he looked like, had he needed it, there was more in the tank. I'm excited to see if anyone new challenges him in the Belmont. He looked like he had just had a workout at the end not run a race.

  3. They are going to have to come up with something BIG to challenge him - like you said, he never put any effort into that at all!!

I truly do hope that doesn't take away from this whole thing...because I think he is just such a phenomenal horse that he MAKES it look easy!

It's not like the rest of the pack was spread out...just like the Derby.  It was him by almost 4 lengths, then Eight Belles (God Rest Her Soul) and the rest of the pack all together.  Same with this race.  All together - there was no break-out second like with the Derby.

So, does that mean he is really that phenomenal???

  4. He is one awesome horse

  5. It was a very good race and he totally looked like he was out for a stroll. If you watched them coming into the last turn, Gayego was running himself into the gorund and Big Brown was just loping past him. He is an amazing horse despite having bad feet.
