the 'cool Britannia' thing came out of the mouth of one Tony Blair in the 90's. there was nothing 'cool' about it, just a sense of shoving real symbols of traditional national pride into the background as 'old fashioned' and showering us all with ghastly girl bands like the Spice girls, tv shows with shouty presenters with hedgehog hair and lurid clothes,etc etc.,which were,purportedly 'cool'.
