Was British Columbia ever part of Mexico?and if so are there descedants of Mexican settlers there?

  2. No, BC was never part of Mexico.  There are Mexican people living and working here but they emigrated from Mexico.  Coastal BC was heavily explored by the Spanish, not the Mexicans and for that reason many or our Islands and coastal waters have Spanish names.

  3. No, British Columbia was never a part of Mexico.

    Because of Canada's open door policy toward immigrants, it could be possible that descendants(far removed) of Mexican settlers might be living here now. There are communities from every country in the world here, so I would not be surprised if there were such descendants.

  4. It's too far north to be associated with Mexico.  There are some amazing new linguistic studies linking the Navajo language with the Ket language of Siberia, though.  The migration probably went the other way.

  5. No, it never was. The Mexicans didn't colonize much north of California. BC bacame a colony of Canada in the 1860's and a full fledged province in 1886. The Spanish did explore along the coast but did not settle, partly because the native people fought them off.
