A prime Bernard would have stopped him. I think Roy Jones NOW can even beat him. Dont even brink Pavlik in the discussion because Pavlik would KO Calzaghe.

  1. boxing is overrated

  2. Calzaghe is overrated.

  3. nobody looks impressive against hopkins but calzaghe did what he does brings alot of preasure nobody yet has really been able to deal with.calzaghe does seem to do alot a slapping but occasionally slips some hard shots in there, im not sure he can beat pavlik but he would definitely test pavlik.i think calzaghe would beat roy jones at this point in their careers . calzaghe might not always look impressive but besides maybe pavlik ,who under the lightheavyweight division can beat him?

  4. Terrible fight very boring Calzaghe looked like the bum that he is. Bernard is just too old plain and simple anyone with a brain and eyes could see it. 4 years ago Bernard would have dominated, I mean he controlled the fight but you can tell he just did'nt have the gas in the tank. I think it's the end of the road for Bernard, it's sad to say about my favorite fighter but it is what it is. As for question Calzaghe was EXPOSED big time, once again Calzaghe just slapped for point like always, he leaves himself open all the time. Roy Jones will destroy Joe, but Pavlik wow no competition. Pavlik would put a licken on Calzaghe like no other. Calzaghe has chin people say, where?? Bernard popped him with a little straight and put Calzaghe on his a**. Joe Calzaghe proved something tonight, he is a bigger loser than I thought. Roy Jones KO him, Kelly Pavlik KO him enough said.

  5. ya i agree he leaves himself open he just out husles everyone by throwing lot of punches thats it

  6. I dont think so.

The reason the fight wasnt that impressive was simply because of Hopkins holding. Every time Joe would try to start up a flury Hopkins would see it coming and literally dive at joe to clinch and stop the attack.

I think the ref was breaking it up too fast, he should have let them duke it out a bit.

  7. so you were one of the judges that scored the fight to Hopkins?

PS; Calzaghe will beat both RJJ & Pavik

Edit - Hopkins would make any fighter look bad as he's a master of it, pavlik would never K'O JC as that fight will happen after RJJ fight.

  8. Ugly decision is about right.  I thought Calzaghe "won" the fight, but his powderpuff punches wouldn't have hurt my wife.  He was the aggressor and threw and landed more, but he didn't look like a champion.

I think Roy Jones can beat him, and I think that's the perfect fight for Calzaghe.  If he can make it close it could mean a rematch.

I was really pissed at the "Low Blow Show" Hopkins put on.  He pulled Calzaghe's head down and got hit on the top of his cup with an open glove.  He just needed a rest.

  9. How can you not bring Pavlik into the discussion?  Can you imagine if Joe Calzaghe walked into Kelly Pavlik's right hand like he did Hopkins in the first round?  Joe would have woke up back in England.  Age beat Hopkins as much as Calzaghe did, a younger Hopkins would have finished what the right hand started in the first.  I agree with you, Calzaghe wouldn't get away with slaps against Pavlik.

The fight went pretty much as expected, Calzaghe out worked the older, slower fighter.  I don't agree with you about Jones, I think Roy's best is behind him and Calzaghe would be a bit too much for Roy.  Still, I would like to see Roy Jones Jr. in a championship fight one more time, I hope that one goes down ealy next year.

I was impressed with the knock down Hopkins scored, if didn't think he could drop Joe, the rest of the fight went as expected.

  10. I agree; if a 43 year old past his prime Bernard Hopkins can knock down and almost beat Joe Calzaghe, then I have little doubt that a prime B-Hop would have wooped him.  I had said this before the fight and I still believe the same afterwards.  I'm not taking anything away from Calzaghe though because he won the fight, but like you said- he was not the least bit impressive.  If anything Hopkins impressed me more with how old he is and how he was able to put Calzaghe down and make it a competitive fight.

As for a Roy Jones, Jr. matchup; I would actually like to see it just to see Roy back against a top opponent instead of fighting guys like Anthony Hanshaw, or an overweight Felix Trinidad.  However, I do not think that Roy would be able to beat Calzaghe at this stage; if this was a prime Roy, I think that Jones would school Calzaghe, just like how I think a prime B-Hop would have beaten Calzaghe.  Roy's problem is that he hasn't been nearly as active in his fights of late due to either his age or him being gun shy or a combination of the two.  Calzaghe would take advantage of that and outwork him to a decision (kind of like the Hopkins fight).

As for a Kelly Pavlik matchup; I would also like to see this one, but I doubt it will happen because Pavlik is too dangerous and he does not bring as much cash to the table as Roy does (even though Jones is a shell of himself).  If it came off, I would probably go with Pavlik after what I saw tonight.  Think about it- who's right hand is stronger at this stage: Bernard Hopkins or Kelly Pavlik?  Pavlik would also land it at a much higher frequency than Hopkins did as well- it would most likely end in a Pavlik KO.

  11. Blog i wouldnt of thought you would be one to run down a great boxer you have shocked me a bit on this one. B-Hop isnt no mug whatever age he might be all though i would agree he didnt seem to have a lot left in the later rounds but no one was mentioning age when he outclassed Tarver and Winky. It does seem that it is another case of British boxers not getting the credit they sometimes deserve.

Also please dont class Pavlik as the finished article as he is still very raw and we can all see that. If he was as great as you say he is would he be taking a fight against Gary Lockett who is not even a top echelon British Middleweight. Please he might be great in the future but not at the moment please.
