  1. Yes. He was also Armenian and Polish.

Born in 1412 Christopher (short for Christofonomere) Columbus took his family name from Cumulus (as in clouds) which was changed by translation from Armenian into Polish and then Portugese, to closely resemble the form we now use.

Ironically, not much is known about his early education except that he trained as a plumber in Genoa, where he later earned a law degree but became discourged with the bar and took up sailing. His first voyages were marked by strife, but he persevered, and later sailed from the south of France where he discovered San Trope, and founded the school of oriental off-shore poetry, which survives to this day (albiet in a much degraded form).

Columbus's *  epic voyages to the New World (or the "New Vorld," as it was known in his day) are, of course, his most famous acheivements, but many scholars believe this not to be his greatest contribution, which was, in fact, the invention of that pliable, yet long lasting soft cheese still used by sailors on long voyages to this day. Burried at sea in the Swiss Alps, as was his wish, Columbus was survived by his wife, a son, and 16 daughters, all of whom eventually took to drink.

Generally speaking, Columbus's family never really profited from either his discoveries or his cheese. Remnants of the family may still be found living in northern Spain, engaging in petty theivery and low paying jobs.

    * It may be of interest here to note that Columbus's great grandson, Antwon, invented the modern aprostrophe while still a third year student at Lipzig University. He died, impoverished, at the age of 28 without ever seeing it reach the widespread acceptance it now enjoys.

  2. christopher columbus was from spain !!!!

  3. good find , asmenia...very intresting thought..  i wonder if every one knows that not only  do they not know where christopher columbus was born or his origin..but they also claim that his physical appearance as we know him through bust,s and lithograhs.. may not be christopher columbus at all?? WHAT is certain is he died in virtual poverty.some say in  monastery others say in  house in adulusia.spain..but all are hear say..personaly i think he was valuable property to t he spanish sovrentiy ,,and the rest of the world would have liked to get information from him as to what he knew about passage ways tot he new world..IN other words he would have been a TOP SECRETin his day.. hence why we have all these intrestign theories..THE CHIOS theorie is intresting and quiet viable ..as chios was a chief trading island and did produce a lot of knowledgable captains of the sea.no doubt for a man like columbus with his thirst for exploration he would have seeked knowledge from there or grew up there as it was once under GENOVESE trade control. SO he would have had a good knowledge from the sea captains in that isalnd about sailing on the seas.combining that knowledge with THE travels of MARCO POLO.. he would had enough knowledg as to .. overcome the popular belife..that the world was flat..he had to battle the HOLY SEE. which was his worse enemy at the time to convince  the king and queen of spain that the world was ROUND. ...so with all that knowledge he would have had to live on chios for most of his adolecent years at least.. the PORTUGESE theory can be true as  he did approach the king of portugal first .but knock him down..how ever in his second voyage the king of portugaual provided the monies he needed for the second voyage..no doubt there would have been some secret agreement.. he also delayed  one of his voyages to seek the amoures adventurs of his beloved who was hidding on the CANNARY ISALND ..for what reason iam not sure..but it was a big thing to hide her from some one or some body? some said she was his liasson to certain top political people in portugal and its polotics against spain. what ever he was ..3 things are sure about him...he discovered the new world.he disproved the earth was flat..and sailed 3 times to the new world..but certainly he was a man of mystery..

  4. Well, some guy putting up a video on the internet certainly doesn't do much to dispel 600 years of history. He makes many ascertions in the video that you'd have to be a scholar dedicated to the study of Columbus to refute or confirm. There isn't any thing that is proof, just lots of speculation and interpretation.

  5. very interesting. now take a look at this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Origin_theo... . the FIRST paragraph says that the origin of christopher columbus is not ''exactly'' known. and in ''Other theories''. also the last paragraph that starts with 'In a little accepted theory expanding upon the ''Chios theory''...'. that guy on youtube isn't lying about the house he says it's next to his.

because so many people are so quick to judge... i'm NOT saying he WAS greek. people here say he was italian, that's what most know, but as it seems, he might have not been.

  6. It is true that Chios was under Genovese rule for a long time, and many Genovese people lived on Chios. So it is not unreasonable that Columbus had been on Chios or knew about Chios. That in itself doesn't prove anything. If indeed he knew Greek, that is interesting. because at that time knowing Greek would be rather strange for an Italian captain (I mean not a scholar). It is also true that many Greeks fled to Italy after 1452 and before that.

Anyway, theories can be made to prove that everyone was Greek, or anything else for that matter. It is not proven, but I have no solid facts to contradict it either.

  7. He was from Genoa in the northwestern part of what is now Italy.  I have spent a considerable time studying p****y in the Mediterranean and have come to the conclusion that the reason he sought out Spain to sponsor his voyage was because of the massive number of pirates in the Mediterranean.  If he and his crew had been captured, he would have been held for ransom and placed into slavery.  He probably would not have been sold into other African countries or tribal areas, but his crew would have been if a price could be obtained for them.

  8. There was no such thing as Italy in Columbus' time.  He was Genoese.

  9. I cannot say or believe that he was of  Greek origin since there is not a formal and scientific theory or strong historical facts that confirm this theory.

We should let the true historians to find Chr. Columbus' real origin. We won't create our  own theories.

I don't want to appear like an idiot and ridiculous by supporting this idea !

We will not adopt the same silly and immature behavior that other people use against our history !

  10. no he was not greek he was italian some people said he was spanish
