According to Stephanie Deutsch's "The Auto Didact: Inventing Ford's America,"  Evangeline Cote was thirty years Ford's junior when she came to work as a stenographer.  He arranged her marriage to his chauffeur, Ray Dahlinger, furnished a house, and later gave 150 acres of land for the couple.  Deutsch notes that circumstantial evidence indicates that her son, John Cote Dahlinger, was Ford's child:  "He provided his own baby crib for the child to sleep in, and when the boy was seven, he received a racing car from the Indianapolis 500, courtesy of Mr. Ford."
