Was I abused as a child?What do you guys think?

Growing up i was always spanked during report card time for bad grades. My mom usually used switches and a couple of times she used an extension cord they usually left welps that took a week to go away. I was making bad grades bc i was constantly being picked on in school. When i would tell her she would tell me to just ignore them. Try ignoring being teased every dang say. Anyways i was spanked until i was 15 years old. I was slapped on several occassions once bc i had two of the top blinds open to let in some moonlight while i slept.She claimed i was trying to entice men on the street. Another time i was slapped repeatedly bc repair men came to our house to fix the stove and i was sitting on the couch and i crossed my legs. My mom accussed me of trying to be s**y for them.I was slapped again when i was 18 bc i asked her when she was going to allow me to get my drivers licsence. I was constantly accussed of having s*x. She made me take a pregnancy test when i was about 10 yrs old bc i was a day late getting my period. I was not allowed to ever go over to any friends house and no one was ever allowed to come to mine. I have had my hair pulled for calling a friend long distance and i have been choked bc she over heard my bf at the time talking about she was crazy bc she accused my stepdad of flirting with one of the street vendors at Disney World. I got slapped another time because she was yelling at me to wash the dishes and i told her i would when i got done with my homework(i was a college freshman).The last time i was slapped was when i putting dinner away and i threw out one piece of okra to make room for the pinto beans. She said i did it bc i knew she liked the okra. My friends say my mother was abusive....i think she was but on the other hand i dont know bc she wouldnt do it all the time. Was i abused? What do you guys think?

Your mother needs to be placed in a facility where professionals can help her. I mean, to accuse a 10 year old of being pregnant, and to try and STAB a guy because she THOUGHT he was LOOKING at another woman?

I mean, you might totally love your mother, but for her own safety and well being she needs to get some help. I agree with your psychology professor. From what you have stated, it does sound like she has a borderline personality disorder. You're a college student, you're old enough to move out or live in your dorm -- for your own safety.

Good luck, and yes... unfortunately that is abuse. She didn't whip you with her hand or a slipper or something, she whipped you with something hard, something that left a mark for weeks! That's what separates a "spanking" from actual "parental abuse".

You sound like a very good person, however. Thankfully, your traumatic childhood experience hasn't dramatically affected you. (And yes, that would be noticeable through your speech and actions.)

have you ever been to some sort of counseling? it may do you good just to talk to someone about it.

OH MY GOD! This is one of the hurtful things I ever heard  in my life.

You mom could wanting you to be really smart at skool.

With the blinds,leg crosses and drivers license your mom might think you are fooling around and is afraid you would be like your father.

Hmmm....I think you mother kinda abused you and she could be a control worring freak. this kinda happened to my friend.

talk to her why the h**l she is doing this to you, even if it causes an argument, the worse the better.

I dont know if Im much help for you but your Psycholoy Professor could be right.
