We had a test today and one question asked what the tan of x was as x approached (pi / 2) from the right.

I wrote "negative infinity." Was this correct?

  1. If by right, you mean right of π/2 on the real number line, then the limit as x approaches π/2 from the right is 0. If it had approached from the left it would have been +∞.

  2. Yes,

The answer is +Infinity on the left side of Pi/2

and -Infinity on the right side of Pi/2.  It's only zero at 0°, ±180°, ±360, ..., Etc.
