Question:

Was I "hooked-up" or "laughed at"?

Recently for lunch, I called up a Chinese restaurant that I had never been to nor had the menu for. I asked the person who answered the phone if they had Singapore noodles. He said that they did, so I ordered some for take-out.

While waiting in line to pay for the food, I read over the menu... no Singapore anything! I took my order back to my office and poured some out on a plate. It smelled normal and had a good curry flavor, but they put 4 different proteins in it: shrimp, pork, chicken and fried egg! I didn't mind it, and I think it's cool that they made something I asked for even though it wasn't on the menu.... but I have only seen Singapore noodles come with shrimp anywhere else.

So, my question is did I get hooked-up, or did they include all 4 proteins out of frustration over my neglegence to specify one? Also, if I continue to patronize the restaurant, is it cool to keep ordering this, even though it's not on their menu?

  1. I think you were hooked up... maybe it's a new recipe they want to add to the menu.

  2. I agree, hooked up.

  3. I think you were "hooked-up".  I think Singapore noodles can come with shrimp, pork, or chicken, fried egg.  It was nice that they were able to supply you with something that wasn't on their menu.  It isn't your fault that they put all four different proteins in there, especially since they didn't have it on the menu.  I think it was the restaurants job to ask but be it as it may, you may want to continue asking for it and the next time ask for maybe one protein or if it tasted good, go for all four.  Another thing, if you keep asking for it maybe they will get the idea and put it on the menu!  :)

  4. you were hooked up.

  5. WTF does "hooked up" mean? I'm not up on the slang you young whippersnappers use.

  6. hooked up, they would have told you "we don't serve that" if it were otherwise.  Order someting different next time you call and when you go in ask them about that instance... then you can continue to order the same thing next time you do.
