Question:

Was I wrong?

I was bike riding today and came to one of the many round-a-bouts or traffic circles in the town I live in...

This one has two lanes (go figure?) so I signaled, lane changed to the inner lane before entering the circle and proceeded around to the exit.

After exiting I signaled to get to the right side of the road and then began my lane change. Some crazy lady who was in right lane decided she was going to speed up to cut me off.

I continued my lane change despite it and she gave me the finger...

Did I do something wrong?

If so what is the proper (and safe) way to navigate a double lane traffic circle on a bike...

  1. well there really isnt i right way because its a bike but u didnt do anything wrong she was just wrong to flick u off

  2. No- I do not think you were wrong.  Where I live it is not very biker friendly at all and the bikers really need to watch out for the drivers.  In my opinion, drivers should always yield to a pedestrian or a biker regardless of where the biker is.  I don't bike but my bf does and I hear so many stories.  Drivers are just plain rude and crazy.  I always yield to the biker even if the biker is not directly in front of me, but is coming my way.  It takes more effort for a biker to get his/her momentum back than it does for me in a vehicle.  I do not think there was anything you could have done in your situation other than make your presence known with bright colored clothing and/or changing your route.  There is no telling what a driver is going to do.

    **UPDATE**

wait a minute - you need to be more specific.  when you said bike i was thinking bike as in handle bars and legs working hard.  if you were referring to a bike as in "harley davidson" my answer is still the same, but i would have left out a few things.  i do keep my distance from motorcycles bc one time i was driving around a corner of a 4 way intersection (kind of a blind intersection) and there was a person lying in the middle of the road with his bike up on the hill.  i was one of the first people there and had to slam on my breaks.  i don't know what happened.  the biker was never in front of me to begin with, so he must have been coming from a different direction and took his turn too fast.  anyway, it was pretty scary.

  3. Very simple...............you did nothing wrong at all...

  4. WHAT!! ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!!! A bike.!!! Did you know there was a study done saying that 100% percent of people die!!!! Oh and 99.9.9.9% of people... Live!!! NO WAY!!!! haha

Oh and 100% of the population have flipped someone off once in there 180 years!

  5. she was obviously in the wrong.... but you probably should have just let her go to avoid a possible accident.... then pull up next to her at the next lights and give her evil stares.

  6. You didn't do anything wrong but the "lady" did! It amazes me how so many drivers have some mental issue with others on the road.

A friend once said that California drivers must be epileptic because when the see a flashing turn signal they always speed up and head right for it.

  7. i think the only thing u did wrong is not giving her the finger back

  8. some people just hate bikers, my husband gets cut off all the time and he is a responsible driver.
