Question:

Was I wrong to leave a note on my neighbor's door?

I live in an apartment building where parking is very limited. I am usually lucky to get a spot. But this dumb lady who lives upstairs in my building parks her car sideways in the lot so she is taking 2 spots every single day. People have left notes on the entrance door like, please park your car between the lines or something like that. But she is so ignorant she just keeps doing it. Not everyone in this building has a garage but she has one.

So today I left a note on her door saying: there are other people who would also like to park in the parking lot and it is not necessary for you to take 2 spaces. You are welcome to park in your garage if you can't figure out the parking situation.

Was this rude of me? I did it anonymously.

  1. It was not rude at all, good for you. If she doesn't get the hint go to the manager next time, it is not ok to be so inconsiderate of other people. A note with no harsh language is fine, I have done it before, you were far nicer than I was.

There was a person who kept doing this at my apartment complex years ago and even after management talking to them, they didn't stop... so I took my car a squeezed it into the parking she blocked so she couldn't get in her vehicle the next morning, she got the hint after that.

I had a newborn and stiches sometimes people don't know what their rudeness is causing it needs to be pointed out.

  2. If she is being deliberately inconsiderate after being told the rules then you have a right to speak up.

  3. I'm sure she is aware other people want to park in the parking lot and I'm sure she knows she is taking up two spaces.  To tell her she must park in her garage until she can figure out how to park was rude.  You should bring it to the attention of the manager of the apartment complex.  Give them the woman's apartment number, make of car and license plate number.  Discuss with them how often it has been occurring and how neighbors have tried politely to discuss it to no avail.  It is their job to enforce the rules.

  4. It's not rude to leave a note, although it would be more polite, more direct, and probably more effective to speak with her in person.

Nor is your note itself explicitly rude.  It could be more gentle, but since she is a repeat offender and is obviosuly ignoring the other notes, it's acceptable.

It would be far more effective if you and the other disgruntled residents spoke directly with the apartment manager.  It is his job to handle this sort of situation by speaking directly with the offending tenant, and towing the car if need be.

  5. I think you're being too lenient with what sounds like a very selfish person. If she persists in doing this despite polite reminders let her tyres down, she'll soon get the hint and start parking in her garage.

  6. well I think you wasted your energy, I doubt she is going to change & if you had any balls you would have said it to her.

  7. The wording was a bit wrong, but the idea of the note was not.

Maybe you could have said, "Please move your car, as it is taking up some spaces that others need. Thank you."

The women needs to keep her car in one spot! Bring this situation up with whoever owns the apartment building.

  8. Why not let the building manager take care of this?  Anonymous notes do nothing except make for bad feelings.

  9. well I'm not as nice as you if this happened more then one time I would go to her apt  and ask her to straighten her car so that you could park .And if this didn't work I then would go to the apt manager and demand something to be done.I had a parking spot that I payed for and someone keep parking there so I had the car towed.Ask the apt manager if this is poss it was for me because I rented my spot may be you can too

  10. a little childish, yea. I have the same situation in my condo complex and sometimes people take my spot. Annoying, yes - but I can walk the extra 25 steps to my door!

  11. yes you were wrong

you have an office manager who works in the office that is to handle such things

the proper thing for you to do now  is go get your note and talk to the complexes office staff

  12. What you need to do is translate your message into her language.
