Was Jesus crucified because he was hated or because he was feared?

It is understood that his death was the fulfillment of a prophecy...that he should die for our sins. Disregarding such prophecy, I would like to know which was the more logical reason why people in his time wanted him crucified. Thanks.

  1. Hated by the Jewish leaders and feared by the Roman occupiers.

It is safe to say that Jesus was not crucified because he taught love and forgiveness or because he set about debating legal points with the scribes of his day. Jesus was crucified because he was seen as a threat to the powers-that-be. His brand of non-violent resistance, his manner of stirring the people and empowering the poor, were correctly judged to be challenging the political power structures of his day.

Jesus was a problem to the Jewish hierarchy from both religious and political perspectives.

Despite the trumped-up charge of blashpemy that is brought against Jesus, it is important to recognize that he was sentenced to death by the Romans on the charge of political treason:

Although there are many unknowns with regard to the events surrounding Jesus' death, we can surmise that there was a deal struck between the Jewish leaders and the Roman authorities. Both had a stake in eliminating Jesus' brand of religion: the Jewish leaders had power and status to protect; the Romans were more concerned with law and order.

Hated by the Jewish leaders and feared by the Roman occupiers.

  2. according to the bible in hebrew 5:7

In the days when he was in the flesh, he offered prayers and supplications with loud cries and tears to the one who was able to save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverence.

i have read a book written by an american anthropologist that says fear was the factor. In their days, they have been anticipating a "messiah" savior to free them from the bondage of the romans and there were many failed accounts of small battles between the jews and romans. Fearing that Jesus also failed to mobilized a force that could drive out the foreign romans, the jews instead denied him to save themselves from mass slaughter.

There are also accounts that say Jesus was not even crucified for his name was not in the chronicles of the roman's list of crucified people in his time.

crucifixion was even considered the most brutal form of execution that would leave those hanging there in anguish and naked enduring the harsh climate of extreme heat and cold to last up to 4 or 5 days before they expire. "Jesus" was not even on the cross for more than 6 hours.

The jews consider it sacrilege to include aromatic herbs to a dead body, but in the bible's accounts, they bought herbs to the tombs...... what would be its purpose but to heal the wounds.

  3. because he was misunderstood.

also, because he died for your sins, so it was supposed to happen.

  4. Feared, by the Pharasies who where the "leaders" of that time. And also by the Roman Government. But also, they hated him because the people loved him. So more jelously really.

  5. He died for our sins!

  6. hello there

Jesus, according to the bible, was crucified because he was both hated and feared.he was hated by the people because the pharisees and kings had proclaimed to the people that Jesus is working in the name of the devil.this made people hate him.

He was feared by kings because His popularity is growing so fast now that they were afraid that people will not adore and worship them anymore.that's why he was feared. His prophecies and miracles are now famous and soon enough,if He will not be eliminated, the people will worship Him instead.

so all in all, people had both feared and hated him in a sense that His  fame resulted to His death but of course, this is on the will of God.

    Best wishes to you!

  7. There is only one logical reason, I think. It's because of money. Papa Jesus had many followers during His campaign for Christianity. And their growing numbers alarmed the high priests of the Roman Empire and they FEAR that tax collection would be affected because Papa Jesus despised that law. So, they misled the people by hurling blasphemous accusations towards Him, and they succeeded (in accordance with the prophecy). The people thought He was evil and practices black magic and HATED Him. The verdict was to crucify Him.

  8. Neither.  He didn't exist.

  9. They hated him.

He drove them out of the Temple where they were having lucrative commerce.  He befriended and made a disciple of a tax collector. He defied the law of Sabbath, with the teaching that it is right to save a lamb who fell into a trap on that day.  He brought them shame when he asked them to throw the first stone if they were without sin themselves.   Most of all, he made them live in the Kingdom to come, when they would just rather fix their miserable lives in this planet, which doom he foresees.

  10. Jesus was crucified  mainly because of fear.  The Jewish Religious leaders and the Roman government  were so much worried   of Jesus  popularity and the way people reacted/responded to His teachings. Many people left their families, their jobs just to become  His follower/disciples. Others sought his help for  their sickness, and whatever ills them.  The leaders during those times  saw these things as a threat to their existence, their power/their jobs, so they collaborated and  decided to nail  Him down   n the cross. (See Mark 11:18)

  11. He was murdered by the government and all those people who just followed without question in His murder are also just as guilty.  And yes, it was mostly based on jealousy and fear that He had more influence on the people who listened to him.  The same tragedy has befallen many would-be natural leaders throughout history and for the same reasons. People should never follow blindly to any government and that includes so-called church leaders.  Thats why God made us with our own brain.

  12. They both hated and feared Him. Moreover, He was crucified because of our sins.

  13. It was both in my opinion. The other leaders/kings feared and hated that a somewhat "simple" man was claiming himself king. At that time period, people were so violent I don't think much cared whether or not he lived but to see someone being tortured.
