The Markan gospels (matthew, mark, luke) say the afternoon while John says in the morning.

Did John forget to set his watch?

  1. In the days when Jesus was  Crucified, the Romans and Jewish people used different modes to tell time.  Mark speaks in terms of the Jewish times of day, and John speaks in terms of the Roman times of day. The truth of the matter:  Pilate handing Jesus over for crucifixion and He was condemned to die at about 6am. He was Crucified a little later on, between 6am and 9am. He remained on the cross until He died.  Between 3 and 4 pm.

  2. Actually it would have been done around noon during the hottest part of the day to make the suffering that much more intense.

  3. Does it matter, he was a man and he was murdered for trying to teach something different.  The church has murdered many because they would not believe what that church was teaching, it was convert or die.  Aren't they loving and kind?

  4. lol-I just read a post that said 'we' (non-Christians) are in denial.

  5. No, early in the morning.  You can tell by the angle of the cross as projected by the shadow and also because of the shimmer of the morning dew all around.  It was quite a lovely scene

  6. He was never crucified.  God ascended him to heaven alive, and his look alike was crucified.  Because God loved him so much. That is why he is alive today and he will come back again.  He is the God's chosen to come back.   This is the true miracle of God.

Now you tell me who's miracle is better?

He was a miracle how he was conceived, how he talked in his manger, and how he lived his life, and how he never died.

That is the Jesus if you do not believe, he will not lead you to his Lord and save you.

  7. His Sundial had broken down.

Frankly the Romans made a mistake by crucifying Jesus. They should have fed him to the lions or stuck him in a deep dark dungeon for the rest of his natural useless life.

  8. There is no proof!  anywhere?????????  Who cares!  "call it midnight"  I see your brain is wishhhhy wassshy!    go to church and wave your hands , with your eyes closed, and don't forget to pay for all that preaching!!

  9. It truly baffles me to no end how people can stand to contort their brains in such a manner to come up with answers such as that given by The Apostle.  And here we have a "Pastor" who has apparently never read the gospels!  Jeez oh man.

  10. I bet never really. They're just stories, not real.

  11. I believe it would have been 9 am. The Father at noon looked away for He could not look upon sin. At that point Jesus, for the first time ever, was without the Father. And He cried out to Him. He was truly alone for the first time in all eternity. That lasted for about 3 hours, when He died at 3 pm. If He had not died in the afternoon. His legs too would have been broken to hasten death. For at night fall began the Sabbath.

  12. All four gospels says Jesus was crucified in the morning about 9 am and he died about 3 pm.

Matthew says he died about the 9th hour which is 3 pm.

    Matthew 27:

45From the sixth hour until the ninth hour darkness came over all the land. 46About the ninth hour Jesus cried out in a loud voice, "Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?"—which means, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?"[d]

47When some of those standing there heard this, they said, "He's calling Elijah."

48Immediately one of them ran and got a sponge. He filled it with wine vinegar, put it on a stick, and offered it to Jesus to drink. 49The rest said, "Now leave him alone. Let's see if Elijah comes to save him."

50And when Jesus had cried out again in a loud voice, he gave up his spirit.

Mark says he was crucified the third hour of the day which was about 9 am by our way of telling time.

Mark 15:25It was the third hour when they crucified him.

And Mark says he died about the 9th hour or 3 pm.

Mark 15:34And at the ninth hour Jesus cried out in a loud voice, "Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?"—which means, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?"

35When some of those standing near heard this, they said, "Listen, he's calling Elijah."

36One man ran, filled a sponge with wine vinegar, put it on a stick, and offered it to Jesus to drink. "Now leave him alone. Let's see if Elijah comes to take him down," he said.

37With a loud cry, Jesus breathed his last.

Luke does not tell us when he was crucified, like Matthew but it agrees that Jesus died about the 9th hour or about 3 pm.

Luke 23:44It was now about the sixth hour, and darkness came over the whole land until the ninth hour, 45for the sun stopped shining. And the curtain of the temple was torn in two. 46Jesus called out with a loud voice, "Father, into your hands I commit my spirit." When he had said this, he breathed his last.

    In John we read:

John 19:14It was the day of Preparation of Passover Week, about the sixth hour.

"Here is your king," Pilate said to the Jews.

15But they shouted, "Take him away! Take him away! Crucify him!"

"Shall I crucify your king?" Pilate asked.

"We have no king but Caesar," the chief priests answered.

16Finally Pilate handed him over to them to be crucified.

John says is was about the sixth hour or about noon.

The problem is that no one had watches or clocks and they were all guessing as to the time of day.

We know Jesus had died without his legs being broken and they got his body off the cross before sundown.

We also know it was Preparation Day and that the next day was Passover.

Which is how we know Jesus died on Good Wednesday, not Friday.

  13. He died shortly before dark on Wednesday.  Why is it critical at what time He was nailed to the tree?

  14. Duh, there were multiple showings!! Its like the sky+ of Crucifixions.

  15. Jebus never existed.

  16. In John Chapter 19 when Jesus was before Pilate, verse 14 says it was the sixth hour.  This means it was the 6th hour of the day, which would have been about mid day.  I dont see what you are referring to.

  17. Are you saying that the word of God Almighty actually contradicts itself?

Unfortunately I don't think the fundamentalists will ever recognize the contradictions.

  18. it started in the morning , but he died in the afternoon

  19. hahahha Look, theres no need to be sarcastic. (I never am. :)

I dont know... he had a long walk to the hill... and they whipped him first...  midday-ish maybe.... Does it matter??? Coz if you beleive in Jesus or not as God's son, there is record of a man called Jesus going through all this, and he had a life just like you, so dont ridicule it.
