Was Joe Lieberman really McCain's first choice...???

Andrea Mitchell of NBC News just said on "Meet the Press" that McCain was told there would be a convention floor fight if he tried to nominate Lieberman; so that he wanted to adopt the "change" message so bad he went for another reform candidate.

Has anyone else heard this? Does this sound right? Was Lieberman really McCain's first choice?

  1. NBC, MSNBC, and Andrea Mitchell are staunch supporters of Obama. They unabashedly admit this, so their comments seem to be self-marginalizing as far as the presidential race is concerned. When Governor Palin was announced as Senator McCain's VP pick, MSNBC ran a news bulletin that asked how many houses Gov. Palin brings to the Republican Party. What a classless remark to make as their first ever mention of this successful leader in our country.

  2. i beleive joe lieberman, condi rice, and colin powell were in the top 5.

  3. Yes, that is true.

And if he were a true maverick, he would have chosen him anyway.

But McCain didn't so he got revenge on the Republican party.  He chose Sarah Palin.

Now if they win, all will be forgiven.  But when they lose, McCain is history as far as the Republican party is concerned.

  4. I sure wish he was.

What a ticket, yet I agree, much of his base would have balked.

    Still, Palin is good.

    Democrats for McCain/Palin.

  5. The Dems were praying Lieberman would be McCain's choice knowing that most Republicans would just stay home and not vote. Then Obama would win. Lieberman and McCain are friends. McCain showed great judgment when he chose Palin for VP. She's great! A real person that is a Governor and not a lawyer! We need more real people in government like her that will work for us and not line their own pockets.

  6. It sounds right to me and if McCain is elected I expect him to be secretary of state.

  7. Lieberman would have bee even a worst choice as vp.

  8. yes

  9. I have the insiders' straight skinny on all this, and it's that six, and maybe seven, potential veeps turned down McCain, referring to this as an unwinnable election for Republicans. After a final, desperate "Who can I ask/beg now?" snit by McCain, someone mentioned Palin to him, and McCain had to be reminded who she is (the current Alaka governor). The feeling is that, since she has no credentials, throwing her under the bus of sure defeat will have little effect on her, since no one knows her anyhow, and it might get her some name recognition. Doing a search on her on Wikipedia, one of McCain's aids discovered she was a beauty pageant entrant, which "perked up" McCain a bit, he added with a knowing wink.

  10. Yes, Absolutely

  11. I heard a discussion on this a few days ago. Lieberman and McCain are good friends. McCain would have loved to have Lieberman as VP and his name was suggested to him, but apparently, McCain nixed it right out of the gate because of the uproar he knew it would generate among Conservatives.
