Question:

Was Kimbo Slice vs. Thompson fight rigged?

I don't think it was. I think a big part of this "rigged" talk was about all the hype around it. Kimbo being an amateur and Thompson having a weak chin.

I think if anyone is honest they can't score the first two rounds... even watching it over and over again. So yeah, these two were matched. Maybe not matched as the best, but a match none less.

Colossus lost six of his last eight fights. Kimbo not knowing what to do while down on the mat and Thompson trying to gently beat him senseless with elbows, gave Kimbo a breather.

Yeah it was dumb but let's face it EliteXC for prime time (I guess first time, really) has to be hyped, if they are going to get any MMA action away from the UFC. If it wasn't for Thompson's ear, first time viewers would be saying, "What's he in there for?" But that's network and circus TV.

  1. The fight wasn't rigged. Yes, Kimbo was supposed to win. But it didn't go as planned. He was supposed to go out there and walk all over Thompson to show that he could beat an experienced opponent. He was then supposed to set up a grudge against the winner of the earlier heavyweight fight (Rogers vs Murphy) The catch was, Rogers wasn't supposed to win that fight. Murphy was. That way Kimbo would have had a chance to fight a fighter with a knowledge of groundfighiting, a fight that Kimbo would probably lose. Unless EliteXC wanted Kimbo to remain its cash cow. In which case, that fight WOULD have been fixed, or otherwise tampered with.

  2. seemed rigged to me

    1. the right could have gone for a few more seconds but the ref jumped in real quick. thompson was still standing in my eyes so he is ok to contiue fighting. since i have started watching MMA, i have never seen a fight stopped while both men are on their feet.

    2. kimbo reversed thompson too many times whilehe was on his back. seems too easy to me like thompson was letting him do that.

kimbo better wait long and hard before he even thinks about going against UFC heavyweights scuh as randy couture, frank mir or even some of the lesser heavy weights. kimbo ground game wouldnt even last.

  3. Follow the rules...

The ref didnt really do that. Thompson was on kimbo hitting him over and over and over. And he stopped it there was no stop in action.

It was obvious they wanted a stand up game for kimbo but thats not fair for other fighters who actually fight diffrently.

he shouldnt have been stood up.

The camera shouldnt have zoomed out during that choke hold so we coulda seen how he got out.

The fight shouldnt have been called.

  4. I don't think you can rig an exploding ear.  Kimbo was down on points and needed a TKO to win and he got it.

  5. While I wont say "rigged" which makes it sound like Thompson was supposed to take a dive, it certainly was favoring Kimbo Slice.

For the ref to let the fight continue while Slice was eating elbows was perfectly fine with me, however the ref did not give Thompson nearly the same treatment. Its unreal that he could call a standing KO after setting the precident of letting the guys fight hard. Also, the fact that Thompson had terrible cauliflower ear is irrelevant. Even if it pops (aside from being painful) it would not hinder his ability to defend himself intelligently.

If the fight was indeed called fairly, that ref needs to be fired because he is terrible.

  6. Kimbo Slice is nothing more that a over-hyped freak show!!To answer your question yes it was rigged!!

  7. Nope.  Kimbo is improving.

  8. I read somewhere that they hired some WCW guys to help with the show's presentation-so I'm sure some of that meant that the outcome was pre-determined, at least for the Kimbo fight. So i'm calling this one rigged. And if it wasn't rigged, why the heck did Thompson show up there with a dumbo ear-any smart fighter would've have drained that thing before the fight.  They knew Thompson has a glass jaw and plus the whole cauliflower ear was just more proof that the odds were already stacked against him.

  9. I don't think elite knew for certain who was going to win but they did everything to help Kimbo out as follows:

    1)  Thompson obviously had an injured ear going into the fight.  You could see from the start that one punch would explode it.  I think that could have been checked and drained long before the fight took place.

    2)  They stood up Thompson when he was a position of dominance.

    3)  the official judges had Kimbo winning the 2nd round.  That is ridiculous.

    4)  The stoppage was bad considering both fighters were tired.  Thompson didn't even hit the ground and was aware enough to push the ref.

    5)  Thompson was coming off what 3 KO losses in a row?  This was suppose to be easy for Kimbo.

  10. yes it was.

how dumb are ppl they answer with no it wasn't but kimbo was supposed to win or the ref let him win.isn't that the same as being rigged?DUH!!!

  11. Seemed so but that's what you get with a 3rd rate organization

  12. It is not that it was rigged during the match but the promoters likely knew that Kimbo was the biggest promotion of the event and set up the match so he would get a so so fighter. I have suspicisions in the second round that it may have been rigged when Thompson was on top and only throwing these weak elbows and never threw down to his body which was completly exposed as he side mounted him. Either way Kimbo has many years to train before he can compete in the ranks and Thompson proved that. He did have a couple nice rolls but a young tyson would have steam rolled him as Tyson was quality trained since the age of 17. Kimbo may be too old to be a pro MMA fighter because he just does not know enough to be pro because he just started at too late of an age..

  13. I dont think it was rigged i thin dan knew that he couldnt stop the fight for thompson unless it was a very clear stoppage and i think he was waiting to jump in any time kimbo had JT in danger.  Bad stoppage imo, but rigged and fixed are strong words

  14. yahoo sports has an AWESOME article about this subject.  I read it today 6/2/08.  it is worth the time to read!

  15. no

  16. it wasn't rigged it was  just stopped about 3 punches too early.  Thompson was on wobbly legs,
