  1. Unseld was the shortest real center in NBA history.  And yeah, he was listed at 6'7" but was more like 6'5 (he did have a 'fro though).

He was a player who possessed enormous physical strength...and he was one of the greatest rebounders in NBA history.

You know how announcers rave about Kevin Love simply because he can throw an outlet pass? (which is yet more evidence that today's NBA centers totally suck if they're raving about Love as much as they are)   Wes Unseld probably was the best outlet passer ever, even though he played during a time when ALL centers were great outlet passers (that was part of the job of being a center in those days).

  2. Agree with Tweety with that outlet pass remark, Wes was the best at it. Only other player to win ROY and MVP in the same season. (The other was Wilt Chamberlain).

In his biography in NBA.com, Wes was "...was listed at 6-7, but after he retired, he admitted that he actually had been just a hair under 6-6 all along. However, what Unseld lacked in height, he made up for with his powerful 245-pound frame and sheer determination."

Certainly Wes was the shortest player to ever play the Center position. For the tallest PG no doubt Earvin 'Magic' Johnson was the tallest and arguably the best to ever play the position. What's great is that Magic given the huge height advantage can literally play all 5 positions in basketball (Although the myth that Magic played the center postion in the 1980 Finals is hoax, he only jumped for the ball at the tip and then shifted back to his original position of PG with Jim Chones playing the actual center position).

    Hope this helps.

  3. He was the tallest Pg of all time,if you exclube the hilarious stunt in the 2006 All Star Game when Shaq brought the ball up.I don't think he is the shortest C of all time,Magic was 6'9 and some players are taking the tip are 6'8

    Im out peace

  4. Yes, tallest being 6'9 but not the shortest because Ben Wallace who is 6'9 was also one of the shortest centers when he is still in Detroit and Chicago..

  5. Unseld played some center.  Another is Dave Cowens who was 6'9".

  6. I think he was the tallest point, not the shortest center. I think Barkley played center in a couple games, and he was only like 6'5.

  7. who cares

  8. -Wes Unseld (C) was 6'5 3/4

-But when the Baltimore Bullets wanted to make him the No. 2 pick overall in the 1968 NBA draft, they said there was no way they could take a center that short. So they told him he was 6-7, the shortest they could live with, in good conscience.

-Charles Barkley (PF) Was listed at 6'6, but was only 6'4.

-Barkley and Magic, could both play almost any position, no matter what position they were listed, they could do it all.

  9. This is why people say Lamar Odom has the potentiall to be one of the best ever... though at this point in his carreer if he becomes an allstar that would be a good enough feat for him...

but its not really their height that makes them perfect for basketball... its their long *** legs and long *** arms...

Having a body like Lamar Odom or Magic Johnson or Garnett or Beasley or Deandre Jordan.... its length...

at 6 10 ur center of gravity isnt that great but its not bad enough to keep u from playing like a point guard as long as ur not too top heavy....

Also hes defitnatly not the shortest center of all time..

I dont know any center shorter than 6ft 9 but i know there are several that are 6ft 9... for instance Brian Skinner former sun current clipper...

But yeah in this sport height matters length matters.. but there is trade offs... if ur too big ur gona be slow or not be able to dribble good...

Magic Johnson is about as big as u can get before ur too big to dribble the ball quickly while running almost sideways....

Next Laker season Lamar Odom said he is going to bulk up a little bit and the lakers might play him at guard... which is really where he belongs... kobe can easily play small foward...

  10. Tallest and biggest player!

  11. Tallest PG-yes

    Shortest C-no

  12. Ya Magic is the Tallest official PG but Shaq plays Point-Center. If you haven't seen him at the all-star games he takes up the ball does cross overs. And in Phoenix he ran two fast breaks and stuff so I guess Shaq is the tallest PG at 7'1 (J/K)...................You were right with Magic

  13. Not the shortest center. Wes Unseld was listed at six foot seven and played center. I believe Magic was the tallest point guard though.

Sorry, I typed Nate Thurmond earlier but was thinking of Unseld.

  14. He definitely was the tallest PG, but certainly not the shortest C. BTW, he was not a Center, he just started at that position when Kareem was injured in game 6 of the 1980 finals.

Among the shortest centers in the NBA are:

    1. Harry "The Horse" Gallatin, who played center for the NY Knicks from 1948-49 to 1956-57, and then played a final year in Detroit, stood only 6 ft-6 in and weighed 215 lbs. He was a 7-time all-star, and averaged 13 ppg and 11.9 rpg for his career.

    2. Wes Unseld, who played his entire career with the Washington Bullets franchise from 1968-69 to 1980-81, stood 6'7" and weight 245 lbs. He was rookie-of-the-year AND MVP in 1969, averaging 13.8 ppg and 18.2 rpg, becoming only the 2nd player to accomplish that feat (after Wilt Chamberlain). He was an all-star 5-times in his career.

    3. Ed Sadowski who played from 1944-45 to 1949-50 with 5 different teams, stood only 6'5" but weighed 240-lbs.

    4. Horace "Bones" McKinney, who played center part-time with Washington and Boston from 1946-47 to 1951-52, was 6'6" and 185-lbs.

    5. Bill Hanzlik of the 80's Nuggets, stood 6'7" and weighed 200-lbs, played center at times for Denver. Of course, he also played forward and guard during his career with the Nuggets.

    6. Stan Miasek who played from 1946-47 to 1952-53 for Detroit, Chicago, Baltimore and Milwaukee, played part-time center despite being only 6'5" and 210-lbs.

  15. yeah i believe so
