If yes (hopefully it is yes, I have to support it in a trial), what is some proof?

  1. Yes, she was a good mother. Marie Antoinette's temperament was more suited to her children, whose education and upbringing she personally saw to.

She greeted her first born daughter with delight by stating "Poor little thing," she said as they placed the baby in her arms, "you are not what they wanted, but we will love you nonetheless. A son would have belonged to the State; you shall be mine, and have all my care; you shall share in my happiness and soften my sorrows." The baby princess was named after the queen's mother, the Holy Roman Empress Maria Theresa. As the eldest daughter of the sovereign, she was commonly known as Madame Royale.

  2. We don't know what kind of mother she was, since back then you didn't have 24/7 papparazzi. But I imagine she was a great mother.

  3. Well if your supporting it in trial there are a number resources online just start utilizing google.

A good biography is Marie Antoinette by Lady Fraser. According to her she was a very good mother. Many of her actions that were considered frivolous were actually in her children's interest. For example her country home that she built on the palace property was to remove her children from he ridiculous French court

Also, it can be argued that the quote "Let the eat cake." Was actually a rumor spread by Countess DuBarry and those who were loyal to her. But, please if you need to use that in your case find the citing in the book (see book info below) because no one will believe you.

    Best of luck!

  4. compared to who?And she never said let them eat cake or bread that is a fallacy,on balance considering the mores of the period ie. life in the french court she probably wasn't too bad.

  5. i think she wasn't a good mother

    remember what she said :

"Oh they don't have bread to eat? why don't they eat cake? "

    i think a person like this can't be a good mother !

PS: i think my translation is not perfect

  6. Actually she was a good mother, a very good mother. She was offered several enticing "deals" (to keep her head) but she always declined and put the welfare of her husband and children first.

best of luck of to you!

  7. From what i have read, she was an excellent mother. She was very interested in her children and spent more time with them than other royal mothers. She personally oversaw their education, which was a departure from norms-usually, a noblewoman took over the royal children and basically raised them.

  8. Actually, she was an extremely good mother.  She fought for her children's safety at the time of the French revolution.

BTW the word "cake" referred to the excess build up of bread dough when the baguettes were baked.

So by saying LET THEM EAT CAKE, Marie Antoinette was actually advocating that the citizens of Paris be given bread to eat.

Google it if you don't believe me.
